The Dead Fall

Chapter 2

"There's not much out here we haven't already searched." Jake said
"I guess we're gonna have to just go further out." Noah said
"Sounds good, probably gonna be gone a couple days. You should radio back and tell the camp we're out." Jake said
Noah pulled a walkie talkie off of his belt and pressed the talk button on the side.
"This is Noah, Jake and I are gonna search further out we may not be back for a few days. If we're not back in four come looking." Noah said
"10-4 boss man we'll be wait'n" someone said on the other side.
Noah and Jake drove a few miles away from Franklin toward the big town of Marion IL.
"So Jake, why after all these years have you not settled down with a woman?" Noah asked
"I don't know, I guess I just like being alone." Jake said
"Fair enough. I was thinking maybe when we get back we could extend the walls, get more space and take in more people." Noah said
"Sounds good to me, but I personally think we need to take Kyle off construction. He is an amazing shot and is real good in hand to hand combat too." Jake said
"If that's what he wants it's fine with me." Noah said
"You know, we went through a lot to get to where we are today but I think it's finally paid off. It's all going so smooth. Exactly how Carter would have wanted it to go." Jake said
"Yeah I think he'd be proud of what we've accomplished." Noah said
"Hey look up here we have a building coming up." Jake said pointing out the windshield
Noah drove in front of the building and stopped. They got out and walked over to the building, Noah rubbed years of build up off the sign on the front of the building.
"Spillertown Veterinary Clinic"
"Well medicine is medicine it all does the same thing." Jake said
Noah shrugged his shoulders and walked over to Jake as they looked at the door trying to find a way in. They heard a noise from around the corner so they both pulled out there guns and aimed them. Eventually a zed came hobbling around the corner, covered in moss, mold, and decayed to the point where it was falling a part.
"I got it." Noah said
Noah walked over to it and kicked its leg making it fall and brought his knife down into the back of its head. He walked back over to Jake, they contemplated how to get into the building but decided the best way was going to have to be breaking the glass.
"It'll be loud but there can't be too many zeds around here." Jake said
"You're right, go for it." Noah said
Jake picked up a rock and threw it through the window. They stood there looking at each other waiting to hear the zeds coming but there was nothing.
Noah shrugged "let's get some stuff and get out of here."
Then after a delayed reaction a large amount of zed noises came from the woods around them.
"That doesn't sound like a few." Jake said
"No, it doesn't." Noah said
They ran into the building and started grabbing stuff but before they knew it the zeds had the building surrounded. They zeds started falling through the hole in the window they had created.
"Shit." Jake said
"Shit is right." Noah said
Noah started stabbing the zeds that we're getting close and Jake managed to find a ladder to the roof. They climbed to the top and looked down on the zeds.
"How much ammo you got?" Noah asked
"Between the two of us there not enough." Jake said
Noah walked to the edge of the building and started shooting zeds thinning the herd a little but not much. Then from out of the woods massive amounts of gun fire came killing all of the zeds. A man wearing a black button up shirt, blue jeans, and a cowboy hat came out wielding a 44. Magnum.
"Well howdy!" He yelled up to us on the roof
"Thanks." Noah yelled back down.
A bunch of other guys came out of the woods and stood on the road they all had rifles.
"How 'bout y'all come down here so we can talk." The man said
Noah looked at Jake, he nodded and they went down. They walked out the front doors walking toward the guy.
"Go ahead and drop your guns. You can keep you're knives, with these guys around me you'd be dumb to try to use those." He said
Noah dropped his pistol on the ground. Jake looked over to him and shook his head.
"Just do it." Noah said to him quietly.
Jake took his shotgun sling off of his neck and threw the gun on the ground.
"Thanks." The guy said smiling
"Anytime." Noah said
They walked closer to the guy and two of his men grabbed their guns from behind them.
"Nice to meet you, the names Chase. Chase Bell." The man said putting out his hand for Noah to shake it. Noah accepted the handshake.
"Noah Daniel, and this is Jake. Thanks again." Noah said
"Yeah about that, we wasted a lot of ammo so we could save you lowlifes, and for that we expect payment." Chase said
"Payment?" Noah asked
"Well to start you can take us back to wherever you call home. I'm interested to see it you look like you're doin' pretty darn well for yourselves. " Chase said
"No sir, we're out on our own. Can't ever seem to find a place that'll let us stay." Noah said
"Oh boy, you just messed up." Chase said
Chase punched Noah in the stomach knocking him down. Jake started to run over but was grabbed by two of Chases men.
"I do not appreciate a lier Mr. Daniel." Chase said
"Well I'm not lying you bastard." Noah said spitting in his face
Chase kneeled over Noah and started punching him in the face. Noah leaned his head over and spit the blood out of his mouth.
"Where it at?" Chase asked
"Go to hell." Noah said
"Listen Noah, we split this herd in two the bigger half of it is coming our way. It's up to you if you want to lay here bleeding out until they get here. Because either way your little boyfriend is going home and he'll lead them and us right to your camp, and trust me that herd will knock it to the ground." Chase said
"Let him go and I'll tell you." Noah said
"Noah." Jake said
"Don't worry it'll be fine." Noah said
Chase motioned to the guys and they let him go.
"Ok Noah last chance." Chase said
"Like I said, go to hell." Noah said laughing
"Oh fuck this, follow his friend I'll he done with him in a minute we'll bring he damn herd with us." Chase said
Noah reached for his knife and pulled it out but Chase grabbed it and stabbed Noah in the stomach causing him to roll over and up onto his hands and knees in pain and Chase came up behind his and grabbed he knife pulling it up further into Noah causing it to go all the way through. He kicked Noah in the side leaving him laying on his back, not moving.
Chase shot his pistol into the air and zeds starting coming out of the woods following the shots. "Perfect timing."
