The Dead Fall

Chapter 6

Noah walked to Hopeville's gate and listened to the sound of hundreds of zeds moaning and beating against the walls. He climbed up into one of the watch towers and looked down at the sea of the dead.
"A lot of them huh? Most I've seen in a while." The guy in watch said
"Yeah, it is and I really need to get through them." Noah said
"We could always draw them away if we can get out. If we're not surrounded we have an escape route in the back." The guy said
"You might have just helped me a lot. What's your name?" Noah asked
"Colby, you?" He said
"I'm Noah, if we can talk your leader into using some type of explosives to lead them away I might just be able to get back to my people." Noah said
Noah saw Scott talking to Frank and Felix. He walked over there with his new friend.
"Hey Scott, I was told you guys have an emergency exit in the back. I think if we play our cards right we can lure this herd away. If your people can help me I'll make sure my people can help you in the future. We'll take down Chase and maybe set up some kind of trade between the community's." Noah said
"You know what Noah? You've got a deal, bring back the normal world. Like three states trading amongst each other." Scott said
"Ok so what do you have that makes loud noise?" Noah asked
"Well for a start if we can clear the front gate we can use the cars with horns and engine noise. To clear the front gate we can have someone go out and walk through the woods behind the town and set off a firework. We have mortars left over from our festival." Scott said
"Sounds good. Colby you go out back and set off the firework. Felix, you and Frank take two cars and get on 55 and hold the horns until the zeds come out of the woods. Scott and I will take the truck through the woods and pick up Colby and help lead the zeds your way. Then we'll all together start leading them away." Noah said
"Ok you heard the man get moving." Scott said

*Daniel safe zone
"Ok everyone I'm gonna take a few people out on a supply run to check for more weapons laying around that we missed. If Chase comes you know what to do." Jake said
Jake grabbed a few of the townspeople he trained, Tom, Mason, and Kenny.
They drove out to a town not to far from the safezone and started searching houses. This time though they were a lot more thorough. Checking under beds, couch cushions, and inside dressers. They were all split up searching and then a truck pulled up outside. Jake got down and crawled over to a window, he looked up and saw a group of four people climb out of the truck.
"Shit, Chase's people." He said to himself
He saw Kenny in the window across the road looking at him. He motioned for Kenny to get down and he hit the floor. The people outside walked over to the truck Jake and company brought.
"They gotta be here, I've seen this truck before." One of them said
"Yeah we gotta find them." Another one said
"Big reward if we kill the leader, Chase said." One said
That's when there was a loud crash in the house that Mason was in next to Jake's. They all started walking toward the house.
"I know you're in there. Why don't you just come out so I can kill you. Make it easier for me." One yelled toward the house.
They all pulled out their guns.
"Shit, shit, shit." Jake whispered to himself
He looked down to the gun on his belt. He pulled it out and took aim at the closest guy to the house. He shot the first guy in the head and fired at the rest of them. He ran outside followed by Mason, Kenny, and Tom. They all ran over to the bodies.
"There's only three bodies and there was four people." Tom said
"Shit you're right." Jake said
That's when they heard what almost sounded like crying.
"Do you hear that?" Kenny asked
Jake walked around the corner of the house and saw a guy on the ground with a bullet hole in his leg. A young guy scared to death and crying.
"Hey, why don't you suck it up fuck face? You were about to kill my people." Jake said
"No! I don't like doing this I don't want to I have to, its the only way he'll keep me alive after what he did to my parents." The man said
"Come on, you're coming with us." Jake said
Jake picked him up and put his arm under the kids to hold him up. They took him and threw him in the back of the truck and drove back to the safezone. They took him to the doctor and threw him down on the bed.
"Who's this?" The doctor asked
"Just patch him up and come get me when your done." Jake said
Jake went to the cabinet behind him and grabbed some handcuffs and cuffed him to the bed. An hour later the doc called Jake back in to the office.
"He's fine it was a through and through." The doctor said
Jake uncuffed him and he got out of the bed. Jake then cuffed his hands together and took him to the jail, putting him in a jail cell.
"Don't do anything dumb and you might make it out of this town alive." Jake said
"I told you I don't want to work for him." The boy said
"What's your name?" Jake asked
"Kane." The boy said
