Chapter 7: The Dance

It was finally December and it was really cold at class with Hagrid since we were outside. Everyone was shivering but me, but the only thing that was bothering me was my ears and my nose was numb along with my fingers. I was so glad I had Viktor's coat with me to keep me warm though.

Hagrid told us that we had to put our skrewts to hibernate and cover them with lids. Draco and his goons, being babies, hid in Hagrid's hut. Harry and Hermione and Ron got most of them but one, which was mine as it wasn't listening to me at all. It had cut me several times and it hurt really badly.

"Don' frighten him, now!" Hagrid shouted. I used my wand to try and get my skrewt. "Jus' try an' slip the rope 'round his sting, so he won' hurt any o' the others!"

"Yeah, we wouldn't want that!" Ron shouted as we continued to hold the skrewt off by shooting sparks. Hagrid launched himself at it and landed on top of it. A blast of fire shot out of its end and it nearly got me. I shrieked as I quickly dodged it.

"It almost got me!" I shouted with a gasp. Apparently, Rita Skeeter was here and she and Hagrid started talking. I didn't bother with it much as I walked inside Hagrid's hut.

"Is it safe to go out there, now?" Draco asked.

"Yes, you bunch of big babies." I said with a roll of my eyes. "Just get out, it's time for the class to leave as well."

"Good!" Draco said as they walked outside of Hagrid's hut and practically ran to the castle along with Crabbe and Goyle. I just rolled my eyes as I walked out of his hut and towards the castle. How impudent. . .

After class on Thursday, Professor Flitwik talked to us about the Yule Ball, which I already knew about and said that at was on Christmas Day. Professor Snape talked to us and showed us how to dance at the Yule Ball. He had me up there with him in front of the other Slytherins.

"Ms. Samus, put your hand . . . on . . . my . . . waist." Professor Snape instructed. I heard a few muffled laughter behind and I clicked my foot on the ground as it followed the voices and froze them on the spot. With a grin, I danced with Professor Snape around the dance floor. He then instructed us to do it as well in pairs. And guess who I was across? Yep, you guessed it. Draco Malfoy. I was disgusted by the whole thing, but Draco seemed rather charming through the dance and didn't pull any tricks like he would usually do. This time he was acting like a man and being graceful.

Oh no, I never thought about who I'm going to go with! Dang it! Well, it's not like it's really important to have one, am I right? It's not like I need someone to go to the dance with, right?

Well, I guess if it's important, then the guy can just ask me to go with him. It's not like it would matter either way. I could just go alone, as I didn't really care for it much. All it was was a dance so I didn't know what to do.

I walked to the library after all my lessons to find a new book to read so I wasn't so bored. I had picked a few and began reading in a far corner sitting on a not very comfortable chair. I felt someone tap my shoulder and then just stand down next to me. I looked up from the book to see Viktor.

"Hello," I said with a soft smile.

"Hello," he said back. He didn't really talk much after saying that. What's up with him? Hmm, maybe he's reading a book of his own. I looked up to see him just staring at the book I was reading and then at me, as if he was just watching me.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked.

"Go right ahead," I mustered as I looked down at my book. He suddenly bowed right in front of me and then took my hand and I instantly stopped reading and looked back up at him. He was looking at me straight in the eyes.
