"CAN YOU BELIEVE we skipped fall?"
chenle shivered, hiding further into his jacket. "i know right? fall is my favorite season, too! it's only october and it feels like antarctica!"
jisung nodded frantically. he moved to wrap his body around chenle's arm as they were walking, falling into the elder's puffy coat. "so cold," he complained. chenle groaned. they were only just leaving their school property, and neither of them had the willpower to run all the way home.
chenle, who was pulling a cotton mask over his mouth, spoke through the material. "to think that we even had to go outside during gym class in this weather!"
jisung giggled, knowing that the boy was probably pouting under the mask. he held chenle even closer, desperate for both protection from the cold as well as to be close to his crush. wow, what a schoolgirl. suddenly the chinese boy shrieked.
"can we stop by the café 'n get hot cocoa?"
jisung grinned. "you've never had a better idea."
they shared a look and smirked, turning to sprint down the street as fast as they could. "whoever gets there last is a rotten egg!"
when they finally arrived to the small coffee shop near mark's neighborhood, they immediately gasped in relief at the warmth that spread through the atmosphere. jisung led them over to a small booth in the corner and forced chenle down, throwing his backpack onto the table. "i'll order."
chenle protested, attempting to stand up but failing when jisung pushed down on his forehead. "you payed last time, lele. i'll do it. plus, i got here last."
before the elder could say something else, he turned and walked up to the counter with a triumphant grin. he quickly ordered their drinks, noticing that the barista was one of the upperclassman at their school, and someone he had seen around in his dance lessons. he grabbed their drinks with a smile and a small "see you later, minho."
as he sat down, chenle was taking off his gigantic puffy jacket. the chinese boy waved happily at jisung, holding out his hands for his drink. jisung rolled his eyes but handed him the hot chocolate, sliding into the booth across from him. "so," he started, "now that we're not freezing our asses off, how's life?"
chenle snorted, almost choking on his drink. he was about to make fun of the younger for the question, but then he actually thought about it. he hummed, narrowing his eyes. "actually, that's a good question. i mean it's been okay? norenmin finally got together, mark and hyuck have been doing well recently, i haven't failed a test, you're still annoying as ever."
jisung gasped. "fucking rude."
when chenle giggled cutely, jisung smiled. "you right though. everyone is in a relationship but us."
chenle sighed, holding his cheek with his hand that was now warm from the hot chocolate. he watched as jisung focused on his drink, taking cautious sips. they chatted for a while, but that sentence stuck in his mind the whole time. eventually, chenle's mouth let it slip before his mind could catch up.
"i like you."
the two froze immediately. chenle realized what he had said and gasped, cupping a hand over his mouth. he felt his fingers begin to tremble nervously. jisung only stared, cheeks flushed and lips parted, letting the words sink in.
chenle's vision became blurry. he stood up shakily, his breathing getting rougher. all the confidence he had previously felt about the situation, about jisung returning his feelings, all of it disappeared into thin air, being replaced with a burning fear of jisung's reaction. he could feel an attack coming on, a break-down, and knew he had to get out of there.
he spared one last glance at his now empty hot chocolate cup, then to the red-faced jisung. "i'm-" he stammered, feeling tears burn his dry eyes.
"i'm sorry."
and he turned and sprinted out of the coffee shop, letting the tears spill. he ignored the cold bite of the air and the judgmental looks that were being thrown at him, he ignored that he didn't even have his backpack. all he wanted was to get home as quick as possible.
upon arriving at home, he raced past his mother, who had happily opened the door for him, and locked himself in his bedroom. his ears were ringing and suddenly, so was his phone. a sob bubbled from the back of his throat as he fell onto his knees behind the door. he pulled out his phone with a trembling grip, struggling to read the screen.
regretfully, he clicked 'reject call.'
chenle went to sleep early that night, ignoring the many worried calls and texts that jisung sent him throughout the hours.
