WHEN HE AWOKE, chenle struggled to open his eyes. they were sore from crying and from going to sleep early.

chenle stared at his wall for a while, listening to the demo version of 'air catcher' by twenty one pilots that was playing in the background. he didn't feel like getting up or going back to sleep, and he was nervous for what was going to happen today, what needed to happen.

they boy sighed heavily and rolled onto his side, reaching for his phone. he unlocked it and checked his notifications, seeing a few texts from the group chat, as well as eight missed calls and seventeen messages from jisung. he bit his lip, dismissing the messages immediately. he turned his phone off, deciding to get ready now that he was awake.

chenle took his time in showering and brushing his teeth, and even watched a few youtube videos. once he started getting dressed, the current video paused and his screen lit up with a call. his heart sped up when he looked at the caller id, and through his nerves, he let it ring for a moment before he slowly pressed 'accept.'

"oh, thank god you picked up," jisung's voice rang out immediately, a bit deeper than normal as he had not spoken yet that day.

the chinese boy hesitated. "hi."

he could hear the other hum on the opposite side. "are you ready for school already?"

chenle stared into his reflection, holding the phone up with speaker turned on. "yeah, i woke up really early."

"cool, 'cause i'm coming over in five minutes."

chenle's eyes widened and he spluttered, racing to finish getting ready. "what?" he exclaimed as he slid his stud earrings in, searching for his watch.

"i want to talk to you before school starts, so i'm going over there. i'm about to leave my house," the elder could hear jisung close his front door on the other line and he sighed, turning to go back into his room.

"okay," he gripped the phone in his shaky hands. "i'll see you in a bit, then."

he hung up before jisung could reply and immediately grabbed his bag to bring it down to the living room. he decided to wait on the couch for jisung to arrive, but ended up pacing nervously. his mother watched, confused, as chenle repeatedly checked his phone, moving from one side of the room to the other.

jisung arrived in exactly six minutes, knocking twice on the front door. chenle looked at it as soon as he heard the knocks and turned wide-eyed to his mother, gesturing for her to open it. she sighed but opened it anyway, giving jisung a small hug and greeting him. jisung looked behind her at chenle, who was staring nervously, and placed his backpack down on the couch before jogging over to pull him into a hug.

chenle stumbled back as he was pulled into the younger's arms, his cheeks turning red and his chest filling up with that one butterfly feeling. he slowly brought his arms to wrap tightly around jisung's neck, letting his body melt into the warmth. his eyes fell closed as jisung hid his face in his neck, holding him close.

"i was worried, you know," jisung mumbled into the crook of his neck. chenle sighed through his nose. "i know, i'm sorry."

jisung pulled away to look at the shorter male in the eyes, but kept his hands on his waist. he pouted. "why did you run away?"

chenle felt his worries melting away, but remained nervous under jisung's gaze. he pursed his lips and huffed. "i don't know, i just... broke down, i guess." he let his fingers play with the short hairs on jisung's nape, staring into his eyes. jisung looked down as he adjusted his hands on chenle's waist, lightly holding the boy. the position felt so, so intimate yet so natural. he took a deep breath and admitted quietly, "i like you too, lele."

the elder turned red impossibly quick, letting his shocked expression stick for a moment before it morphed into a grin. jisung chuckled, looking back up into his eyes. "what, you thought i didn't?"

chenle shook his head cutely. "it just feels so weird to hear you say it!"

jisung giggled, pulling chenle back into a hug and swaying them from side to side like a grandmother. "i like you, i like you! i like zhong chenle!"

chenle squealed. his happiness was overflowing, and his smile kind of hurt as it was so wide.

the two hugged for a while longer before they noticed that school was starting soon. after chenle finally checked all of his messages from jisung, he apologized profusely and hugged him once again. however, despite their overwhelming feelings, they agreed on taking it a bit slow before actually getting together, seeing as neither of them had any experience.

that morning, they skipped down the streets with their fingers intertwined and their smiles impossibly large.
