CHAPTER TWO

Everly woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. She was up the earliest out of all her dorm mates, as she had always been an early riser. So, she went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, did her hair(it was in a low side braid, over her left shoulder), and put on the Hogwarts uniform. However, instead of like yesterday, when it was quite plain, she now had on a tie adorning the canary yellow and black colors of Hufflepuff, as well as a Hufflepuff crest on her grey, v-necked jumper.

When she was done, Ever looked around at her sleeping dorm mates: Susan Bones, a red headed girl who was nice, but seemed to be friends with Hannah Abbot already, so they didn't talk much, Hannah Abbot, a quiet blond, Lydia Jones, a bubbly girl who Everly had talked to at dinner the previous night, and Astrid Olsen, who had explained to the girls the night before that her hair wasn't a weird color, or anything, her family were just practicing Muslims and that's why she wore a hijab.

Everly, completely ready after strapping on her black flats and feeding Frosty, walked out of her dorm and into Hufflepuff common room. She took a moment to look around, having been too sleepy to the night before. It was amazing. The Hufflepuff common room was the most cozy place that Everly had ever been.

It was a round room, covered in earthy colors, but mostly the bee-like colors of yellow and black. The wood was polished and honey-colored, used for the tables and the entrances to the girls' and boys' dorms. There were colorful plants and flowers everywhere, brightening the room exceptionally. The windows were low, and exactly foot-level with the ground, so the students could see dandelions and the rippling, green grass, as well as the occasional foot.

In the middle of the back wall was a wooden mantelpiece, sitting below a big portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, toasting the students with a small, golden, two-handled cup. There were round shelves around, fit to the walls, with small cacti in pots on them, waving to the students. Scattered around the room were squashy, yellow and black couches and chairs, all canopied by multi-color and fabric quilts.

Everly quite liked it. She smiled at her surroundings, before heading through the earthy tunnel that led to the entrance and exit of the Hufflepuff common room. The entrance was an empty barrel, that was quite large, allowing at least four students to enter at the same time. Ever climbed out of the barrel, coming into a medium-sized room, which was connected to the same corridor as the kitchens. Barrels were all around, and the prefects, a girl named Sally and a boy named Donald, had explained to them that they needed to remember the rhythm to 'Helga Hufflepuff' and which barrel they were supposed to tap it on, unless they wanted to get covered in vinegar.
