CHAPTER ELEVEN

Everly's throat was sore and her head hurt. All she could see was darkness, until she realized that her eyes were closed. She blinked them open slowly, squinting against the harsh light and hoping her headache wouldn't get worse because of it. Ever groaned, pushing herself up. She realized that she was on a hospital bed, clean white sheets and the smell of antibiotics, and everything. Looking around, she saw Madame Pomfrey's desk, the many shelves of potions and medicines, and a white and blue patterned curtain on the other side of the room, where another row of hospital beds was.

Eyes focusing in, she realized that Ryan was sitting in a chair beside her bed, reading a muggle book called To Kill A Mockingbird, which Ever had read and loved. Ryan looked up, seeming a bit surprised to see her eyes open and a sleepy smile tugging at her lips. "Hey!" He exclaimed, causing Pomfrey to look over her shoulder from her desk to shush him. He winced, "Sorry," before smiling brightly, "you're up!" He shouted this in a whisper, grey eyes sparking up as they usually did.

"I am," Everly agreed, just happy to see that the oldest Malfoy wasn't angry at her anymore. "What happened, though? Do you know if Hermione, Ron, and Harry are alright?" She shot off, suddenly remembering everything that had happened before she passed out.

Ryan opened his mouth to speak, but an old voice cut him off. "I assure you, Ms. Lupin, Mr. Potter, Ms. Granger, and Mr. Weasley are just fine." They both looked over, the quick movement causing a sharp pain to sting in Ever's head, catching the twinkling blue eyes that belonged to Dumbledore.

"Professor," Ryan acknowledged, blinking in surprise. Everly was in the same state, letting her hands rest on her blanketed lap as she nodded towards the old man with half moon spectacles. "Is something wrong?" The white-haired boy asked, sounding a bit concerned.

"Nothing is wrong, Mr. Malfoy. I just thought that, perhaps, Ms. Lupin would like to know what exactly happened to her. Madame Pomfrey did say that there would be slight memory loss, and classes are about to begin. I knew Ms. Granger and Mr. Weasley wouldn't be around because of that. Any reason you are not yet in Potions?" Dumbledore seemed less like a disappointed teacher, and more like a teasing older cousin, a knowing look in his eyes.

Still, Ryan's pale cheeks went a bit pink as he stood up. "Er--No, professor." He seemed to gain his nerve back, "Just planned to see how long ole 'Snape-y could go without me." The boy started standing up, placing the muggle book in the bag that was beside the chair.
