✯ CHAPTER EIGHT
A few weeks later, Everly's fifteenth detention was with Hagrid, going to do something down in the Forbidden Forest. It was a less than intelligent idea, in Everly's eyes, because students weren't allowed to go to the Forbidden Forest, but who was she to question the school's disciplinary policies? So, late that night, she walked down to Hagrid's quaint, little hut, where she saw the big man and his giant dog, Fang.
"'Ello, Ever," Hagrid greeted, smiling as Fang ran up to her, allowing her to pet the big dog. She scratched behind his ear, causing him to lick her hand affectionately. She giggled. "I'm real sorry you ended up in detention," he continued sincerely, obviously thinking that Ever was in the right.
"Well, at least this time I'm with someone I actually enjoy being around." Everly continued to play with Fang, wondering why Frosty couldn't be so sweet. The white cat enjoyed just sleeping and that was it, but Everly still loved her, for sure.
"Multiple people, I think," Hagrid said, making her look up curiously at him. It was well into the night, but the big man could still be seen even through the canopy of darkness. Plus, he held a lantern in his hand, causing an orange glow to emit some light. "Harry, Hermione, an' that Longbottom boy will be 'ere, as well." The giant grimaced, "but so will 'at Malfoy boy."
Everly frowned, not wanting to be anywhere near Ryan's younger brother. She felt bad about what she did, but she still didn't like him. He made her appreciate Ryan's accepting nature even more. More so, Everly had lost her nerve again, and was almost... scared to face the youngest Malfoy, which annoyed her to no end and caused her to feel so pathetic because she'd proven that she could combat the youngest Malfoy, should she need to. At the very least, Hermione, Harry, and even Neville would be there.
"Everly!" She looked up, just able to make out Hermione and Harry running towards her. They stopped once they got to her, panting and their faces red, not that Ever could see through the darkness. "I know this sounds bad, but I'm glad you're here." Hermione smiled.
"What did you three do to get into trouble?" Ever asked, just as Neville walked up behind Hermione and Harry. She sent the boy a warm smile, and he sent a timid one back. "I mean, I know you're just as apprehensive about punishment as I am," she directed this towards the bushy-haired girl.
"Out past curfew," Harry said, eyeing Hagrid, before adding, "we'll tell you why later. Do you know who we're waiting on?" Everly sighed, and Harry watched as she scratched her left wrist, something he noticed she did often when she was uncomfortable or nervous.
