CHAPTER TWELVE

The school year was over, leaving many students torn between a happiness at getting to see their families and a sadness at leaving their second home. The sky was blue with big, puffy clouds floating around it and the sun was bright, causing the humidity to be at its highest peak in a while in the mountains of Scotland. Thankfully, the students didn't have to endure most of it, though, as they would be on the air-conditioned Hogwarts Express.

The students all climbed inside the scarlet train, quickly finding their seats, friends always close. Everly, who hadn't gotten the chance to have that conversation with Ryan that he'd promised yet, was sitting in the same seat that he had found her in the first time they met, at the beginning of the school year. The curtains were drawn over the window, allowing a cool, dark air. Frosty was enjoying it quite a bit, resting beside Ever as she waited, slightly apprehensive, on her friend.

Like she figured, she didn't have to wait long for the compartment door to slide open, catching a glance of white hair peaking in. "Ev?" Ryan asked, before seeing through the darkness and realizing it was her. "I'm assuming you've not forgotten?" He asked, still standing in the doorway.

Everly smiled gently, shaking her head before motioning to the seat in front of her. Ryan quickly understood, sitting down on the red leather seat. He seemed more nervous than ever, surprising Everly. He ran his hand through his currently messy hair.

"You don't have to tell me anything," Everly said softly, "but I wish you, at least, wouldn't have avoided me after. I wouldn't have brought it up. I understand the relationship you have with your family is a tense one, Ryan, and especially with your brother."

Ryan looked and felt guilty, but shook his head and sighed. "I didn't mean for it to be that way, really, I just... haven't ever really told anyone about it before... I mean, everyone knows that I think differently... but no one really knows the extent."

"It's your decision to tell me or not. I just don't want you to stop talking to me because I stumbled upon something I wasn't supposed to, that's all," Ever explained quietly, meeting Ryan's grey eyes with her own amber. "I care about you, Ryan. A lot. You're one of my best friends."

"I know it wasn't your fault," Ryan began, apparently ready to tell Everly about everything, "you just... you walked in on something very private. Draco and I... we're brothers. We'll never stop being brothers, but it's... we can't really talk at home, because my parents--father, really, my mum's great, likes--loves Draco more. He thinks I'm a... bad influence, I guess, because I, you know, hang out with generally kind, accepting people who'd help anyone if they were down."
