Chapter XXII

Volcarn

Eyanne was once again screaming and I opened my eyes to find Noomkiara curiously looking around at the noise from in my embrace. I smiled thankful that the previous nights events were not just a dream.

“Princess is that the dragon…?” Eyanna whispered cautiously, her hands clasped together nervously in front of her.

I stroked the back of Noomkiara’s head and she chirped happily, turning to face me. “Is she not the most beautiful dragon you have seen? Her name is Noomkiara: ‘Born by moonlight’.” I pulled the covers off me to see bits of broken shell and membrane scattered.

Eyanne let out another shout, this time more of a squeal. “It- Noomkiara… she is very beautiful indeed, but to think she hatched for you a mere child compared to all of those other warriors.”

I giggled, sitting up and playfully poking Noomkiara as she took little nips at me. “I can barely believe it myself, I am overwhelmed with joy.” I cried, grasping Noomkiara and hugging her tightly to my chest.

Eyanne smiled, “Shall I prepare the bath so you can wash her?”

“Please do,” I nodded, “And if you could please tell Daarken? I would think he would love to hear about this.”

Eyanne bowed low and hurried off to the bathroom, turning the bath on and filling it with soaps before running out of the room to Daarken’s.

I got out of the bed as Noomkiara crawled up my arm and sat on my shoulder, her eyes scanned my room. I walked to the side of my bed where some seats sat. “I think we will have to build a dragon’s sleeping quarters here, you can sleep with me for now but when you get big enough you need somewhere just for yourself.” I said to Noomkiara.

Her eyes scanned the wall curiously; I think I will much appreciate that, my Rider. She said, I hadn’t heard her voice sense the previous night and it made me almost want to jump with excitement. I still could not fathom becoming a rider.

Suddenly the door burst open and Daarken rushed into the room, quickly followed by Eyanne and Sarben. While Eyanne headed to the bath area and Sarben hung shyly behind me, Daarken rushed straight towards me and quickly introduced himself to Noomkiara.

“Greetings,” He began, his eyes sparkling and his smile wide, “It is I, Daarken. I see you have hatched into something truly magnificent.”

Noomkiara tilted her head, Greetings Daarken and to you Sarben.

Sarben stiffed when Noomkiara’s voice touched his mind, “G-Greetings, dragon, may I ask what your name is?”

Noomkiara shuffled her wings and raised her head proudly, I am Noomkiara: “Born by Moonlight.”

“That would have been incredible seeing Noomkiara hatch,” Daarken breathed, his eyes caught mine, “Perhaps I should just sleep with you so I do not miss any more exciting events?”

My eyes widened and my cheeks burned, luckily Sarben stepped in for me, “Oh shut up Daarken, you are making everyone feel uncomfortable, especially the maid.”

We all turned to see that Eyanne was indeed standing there with red cheeks and glaring at Daarken. “You… you have seen the dragon, so get out and leave the princess alone!” She cried, shooing a laughing Daarken and Sarben out of the room.

Akaiya, your reaction was quite priceless; could it be you have feelings for the boy? Noomkiara asked innocently.

Eyanne was talking very quickly and pushing me into the bathroom; I zoned out and replied to Noomkiara through my mind so Eyanne would not hear. Of course not! Daarken is a simple minded fool and my rival for life!
