Chapter 7
Charlotte’s pov
2 boxes of chocolate and 4 cups of coffee. That’s the amount of sugar and caffeine I had consumed to grow a lady pair and approach my dad. I was ready to marry any stranger to save my dad’s company. Now when I look back to that day, I feel that I over reacted. As a Kingston it was my duty to work to protect our family’s legacy. I wasn’t heartless to let my grandfather and dad’s hard work go to waste. From the beginning only when Dad announced that I would have to marry someone in order to save my company, my brain knew that I would accept it no matter what at that very moment. But it was heart which just wasn’t ready to accept the fact that I would have to give up whatever I had built for all these years. But now I have thought enough about it. I was ready to marry whomever Dad wanted me to because to me my family was everything.
The elevator doors opened up to floor of my dad’s office and Natey instantly crushed my with his bear hug.“I missed you Lottie pie!”he exclaimed. Though I was a hugger, I didn’t want to die right now. “Ca-ant breathe!” I said my voice just a mere whisper because of the tightness I felt in my throat.
“Oops I’m sorry pie. It’s not my fault that I am meeting you after so many years. You just went to the big apple and forgot about your friend here.” He said in a sickening sweet voice which might I add held a hell lot of sarcasm. “You though that occasional ‘how are you’ and ‘happy birthday’ texts along with 2 second phone calls were enough?!” He continued in an accusing tone but I could sense the hurt behind it. I knew I wasn’t the best of friend to him all these years and hearing it from his mouth made my guilt ten times worse. I had completely avoided this city and in that process, without realisation I had ignored some people who meant so much to me. I instantly enveloped Nate into a tight hug.
“I am so sorry Natey, I am so so so sorry for being an ignorant ass all these damned years. I became so occupied in building a future for myself that I became ignorant to all the people in my past. You are my bestest friend and I should have never done this to you. Please forgive me” my voice was thick with emotion and the silent tears were now continously falling. Upon realizing the wetness he must be feeling on his shirt, he pulled away just a little to see my face.
“Hey hey it’s alright Lottie pie. I know you had your reasons and I am not judging you for that. I forgave you the moment you entered this building and showed me that dazzling smile of yours. And as for the compensation you know just the place for a good cheesecake.”At this I chuckled. Some things never change. And Nate’s obsession with cheesecakes was one of them. He just cannot take anything seriously and I must have known better than to think that he would hold a grudge against me.
“Well now that everything is forgiven, when are you meeting up? We need to catch up on 5 years of gossip. I think we need a stay over for that” he asked dramatically.
“Just text me the date and time my master and I will be at thy service” I tried to speak in a seductive tone but I know I must have sounded like a constipated pig.
At this he burst into laughter. “You’re something else Charlotte.”
“Ofcourse I am” I added proudly.
“Mr Nathaniel, Mr Webber had called and asked to discuss the marketing agreement with you” we were interrupted by Nate’s secretary.
“I am coming Daniella. Go and prepare the fax documents” he said in such a professional tone that I was shocked for a moment. And I must admit that it was kind of sexy. I had a minuscule crush on him in primary school but then we grew up to the the bestest friends which turned into a brotherly love. But it doesn’t hurt to aprreciate a fine specimen.
