Franklin Park
July 4th, 2001Lainie never liked fireworks. If William was being truthful, he didn't particularly like them, either. So he took her by the hand before the show started and they walked into the trees together.
Lainie had brought a few dolls with her, so William suggested they play with them under the trees.
William was able to distract Lainie from the sounds of the fireworks until one particularly loud boom!
Lainie shrieked and bolted to take cover by a tree. William followed her and crouched down beside her.
"Hey, it's alright. I'm here for you," he reassured her. He pulled her onto his lap. "They're just noises, Lai. I'm here. I'll always be here, okay? You know that, right?"
Lainie nodded. William smiled and hugged her tight.
"Always?" she repeated. "For ever and ever?"
William nodded into her head. "For ever and ever."
