Boston
October 2nd, 2002John was not ready to do what he was about the do.
At all.
He wished desperately that William could have come with him, but John knew that the thought was incredibly selfish. Lainie had school to attend, and she was having friends over on Saturday. Plus, William needed as much distance from Boston as he could have until he had sorted through everything.
John sighed, turning away from the taxi and staring the house down with a fiery hatred. He wondered if she was even still living there, or if she had changed the locks. Her car wasn't in the driveway, so John was relieved that even if she still lived here, he wouldn't have to see her.
The taxi drove off and John turned, suddenly wishing it would come back and take him to New York. A Boston taxi to himself would be better than the trashy bus he took to get to Boston in the first place.
He shook his head and slowly, John made his way up the stairs. He put the key in the doorknob and was surprised to find it unlocked. He pushed the door open.
"Hello?" His voice echoed through the still house. He slowly walked through the hall, his heart pounding faster than he would ever admit.
When John was certain he was alone in the house, he sat down at the kitchen table and placed his head in his hands. His lawyer was going to call within the next hour, and he needed to meet with his realtor shortly after.
John stood from the kitchen table and grabbed his car keys from the hook by the door. He froze when he heard a car pull in to the driveway. He slowly made his way over to the window to peek out.
It was her.
John stopped breathing. His throat closed up and his heart felt dead in his chest. He was not prepared to see her. He'd only come to retrieve his car so he could get around the city himself. He slipped out the door, feigning confidence. He just needed to get to the car and leave the house. He didn't need to speak to her, or even look at her.
"Jonathan?"
John mumbled a few swears, but walked right past her. He only glanced up at her once he was in his car and had started it. She stared right at him, gaping.
John rolled his window down, averting his eyes from her gaze.
"In case you hadn't figured it out, we're done. I've got a lawyer. I'll pay for everything. I just need you to sign." John took a deep breath, waiting to see if she'd reply. When she didn't, he continued. "And you better get out of the house. I'm selling it."
This was when she started to protest, but John ignored her and backed out of the driveway. The moment he showed he was terrified out of his mind would be the moment she won, and John desperately needed to stay in power. For William, for Lainie, and most importantly, for himself.

A/N
Okay another a/n. Yes this is a repost but the two parts before this are not and when I wrote them I realized I wanted Elle and William's confrontation to be before this part and the upcoming parts, so here it is again. In a better place.
