Before we began this Night Stalker isn't the Richard Ramirez who was convicted in 1989 of 13 counts of murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, 11 counts of sexual assault ,and 13 counts of burglary. Yeah.. so not that guy.
This is the Original Night Stalker, in 1979- roughly 5 years before the Ramirez murders, an unknown suspect raped 45 people in Northern California, murdered 12 people in southern California, and committed more than 120 burglaries. These started in the east areas of Sacramento, assaulting at least 50 women between June 1976 and July 1979. At that time the assailant was known as the "East Area Rapist" because the cases in both Southern and Northern California were not linked together until 2001.
But we now that this guy is actually Joseph James DeAngelo aka The Golden State Killer.
