Chapter 3
I have to say, this was not how I was expecting to meet my new neighbor. Looking down at the unconscious woman in my hands I just can’t help but appreciate the solid weight and curves of her in my arms. I should feel terrible feeling up an unconscious woman with the sheriff not two feet away but I just can’t dreg up the energy to care.
Still trying to comprehend how I ended up in the predicament; the sheriff finally got off of his walkie-talkie and regarded me and my prize.
“Son, do you mind telling me what happen here today? I got a call from a local saying that a man was on the roof of Worm’s house, are you the man sir?” asked the sheriff in his gravelly voice.
I looked up at him like if he was crazy, looking at the Sheriff, you can’t tell if he’s looking at you or somewhere else with the thick sunglasses he’s wearing on his face. He stood legs apart with his hands fisted on his hips. He looked to be in his late forties early fifties and judging by the gut he was carrying around, loved to have beer at the end of every shift.
“Son, I asked you a question!”
“Oh yeah, No I was not on…….Worm’s roof. I was on my roof fixing it when all of a sudden I see her running out of her kitchen and tripped and fell and ended up like this.” I explained.
“Uh huh, a likely story. I need for you to let go of Little Worm there and come with me sir.” He said whilst gesturing for me to follow him. I don’t know who he thinks he is but there is no way I’m leaving “Worm” on the ground to answer some questions.
I gathered her in my arms and picked us both up. She started to stir in my arms and I tightened my hold on her to make sure she does not fall. She made a little sound in the back of her throat and opened her eyes and looked right at me.
I sucked in a deep breath from the impact of her gaze. She had the brightest brown eyes I have ever seen that seem to sparkle in the sunlight. She squint her eyes at me and then they widen in alarm. I don’t know what about me spooked her but she started to trash about in my arms and I had to tighten my arms around her even more.
“Whoa there, don’t want you to fall now do we Worm!” I said in a light tone trying to hide my amusement.
Apparently that was the wrong thing to say for she stiffened in my arms and glared at me.
“Put me down now!” I had to lean in closer to hear what she was saying but I got the message loud and clear. I gently rest her on her feet and she wobbled a bit before grabbing on to me for support. I wrap my arms around her and pulled her towards me, now we were chest to chest and for some odd reason, it felt right.
The sound of the sheriff clearing his throat made us both turn our heads to face him. The quickly step out of my arms and I had to fight the urge to pull her back there.
“Worm, are you okay, Cleo called and said that there was and I quote “a hot guy” on your roof!” exclaimed the sheriff whilst pulling off his glasses quickly. He must have watched a little too much C.S.I: Miami to pull off a move like that.
“Worm” as they called her dust off her pants, which did not make much sense, since she was covered in dust from head to toe and a little dusting is not going to help that. She was looking at anything besides me, and judging by the blush on her face, she was embarrassed this entire encounter.
After clearing her throat she explained “No sheriff Hardy, nothing of the sort happened here. I was talking to Cleo on the phone when I noticed Mr……”
“Grey, Sebastian Grey.” I filled in for her when she finally turned in my direction. I did not know it was possible but her blush got even more pronounced and she quickly went back to dusting her clothes.
“Yes, well Mr. Grey was on the neighboring house, and I spotted him and informed Cleo that there was a….
“Hot guy on the roof” I grinned whilst folding my arms. My smile grew when she shot me an agonizing look before turning back towards the sheriff.
“As Mr. Grey pointed out, I informed Cleo that there was a “hot guy” on the roof, and you know how Cleo is; she didn’t wait for me to clarify before she jumped to her own conclusion before hanging up on me.
Sheriff Hardy scratched the brim of his hat and averted his eyes. The switch of his lips betrayed the fact that he wanted to laugh. He then coughed a few times and cleared his throat before saying “Alright, if you’re sure, but I think you need to go and get your head checked out after that nasty fall.”
“I’m quite alright sheriff; I just have a few bumps, that’s all.” She said shakily and patted her head, but she could not hide her wince from us.”
The sheriff and I shared a look and I quietly walked towards her. I reached my hand out and said “Worm….”
That’s all I got out before to snap her head towards me and pierced me with one mean glare. I dropped my hand and I would have felt scared if I did not find her sexy as hell all fired up.
“Don’t call me that!” she snapped.
“What!”
“I said not to call me that. My name is Trinity, Trinity Elliott not Worm.” She had her hands clenched into fits at her sides and her hands were turning white with the force at which she was clenching them at.
I raised my hands, palms out on either side and continued my walk towards her. “I’m sorry; I won’t call you by that name again.” When I reached her I laid my hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes. I had to fight not to get sucked into the deep depths of her eyes and calmly said.
“Wor……I mean Trinity, what the sheriff said is true. You had a nasty fall and you were unconscious for a few minutes. You need to go the hospital to get yourself checked out. I’ll be willing to drive you if you’ll like.”
Trinity was looking at me with big eyes. Her eyes were unfocused and I doubt that she heard what it is I said. I shook her a little to get her attention but what I end up getting was Trinity eyes rolled back up into her head and she fainted dead away onto my chest.
I scoped her up bridal style and the sheriff and my mind were in tune since he did not ask any questions and just moved towards his car and open the back seat for us. I gently sat in the car and cradled Trinity like she was glass.
The sheriff got into the car, glanced back at us once and started the car. A little red car was coming towards us and when the sheriff put on his siren, the red car stopped, turned and started to follow us. Frowning at the odd behavior of the car I was pulled out of my musing when Trinity groaned in my arms.
I rest my hands on her check and she subconsciously turned towards my hand. I pulled her closer in my arms and looked at her face all the way to the hospital.
The hospital was not grand by any standard, since this was a small town but the service have to be great since before the sheriff could even stop the vehicle, nurses were already outside with a stretcher.
I slowly stepped out of the car and nurse closest to me put out his hand to take her, but I side step him and rest her down on the stretcher myself. I brushed her hair away from her face but the sudden movements of the nurses jostled me out of space and I was left standing outside whilst they took her inside.
I stood outside staring at the hospital doors for what seemed like hours, trying to wrap my mind around how this woman affects me. I shake my head of my musing and as I take one step towards the hospital doors, all I saw was a flash of red before I was tackled to the ground.
