SAGE JONES CERTAINLY KNEW TRAGEDY HER ENTIRE LIFE. Ever since she was 7 months old, she was known as an orphan. Her mother was a stay at home wife to her father who was essentially a business mogul. They had a perfect image of a perfect modern family. But, as always, life had different plans.

Vera, her mother, had many problems which resulted in her husband with stabbing her abdomen with a kitchen knife but then shot herself in the head. Her father, Donovan, jumped off the roof of their expensive house after intoxicating himself with heavily dosed wine.

And there laid Sage in her nursery, sleeping as quiet as she would ever be. In just one night, it all went to shit so suddenly. To most, it appeared to be a murder-suicide and it was decided as just that. Days after, little ol' Sage was covertly placed in the Hemlock Grove's Orphanage of the lost.

She went through many, many homes that accepted her but throughout the years, she was returned to the home several times. Once she was 14, she begun to live with no one else and could provide for only her lonesome.

But even with the tragedy, she had some comfort to share with the boy who had a usual silver spoon placed in his mouth, Roman Godfrey. He was the rich boy in town with a dead father and a seemingly emotionless mother to go with his very sweet sister, Shelley.

Sage had met him once they were children, she had been enrolled in some charity program offered by his mother, Olivia Godfrey to hospitals and various orphanages. Sage thought it was bullshit since she hated being pittied and the pair of children bonded over the very topic.

The two hated most things and bonded over that similarity. And even more so, Roman had favored how she wasn't some asshole who hated or ridiculed his sister or well, him. After all, common decency was just as about dead as chivalry.

And so, over the years, they became two devilish friends. They began to skip class, smoke, and watch out for each other whenever.  She was his wing-woman and he was her rock, always.

In their regular routines, Roman would pick her up from her job at the crappy bakery at 3:15 p.m, sharp before going over to a classic diner they adored. Then, she'd stay over at his house to do a variety of things with the Godfrey heir.

Even with their cold exteriors, they were friends and arrogant ones at that. But obviously, Shelley and Sage had an even warmer relationship. They always talked about how Roman was either a dick or a great brother. Plus, she would occasionally beat up anyone who even dared to look at Shelley the wrong way.
