ALMOST A FULL YEAR AFTER MARY'S DEATH AND A HEATED ARGUMENT BETWEEN GODFREY AND HER SIBLINGS, SAGE SEEMED BACK TO NORMAL, WELL AS NORMAL AS SHE COULD BE. She always hid her emotions, that was very obvious but she had been talkative and more expressive like beforehand. Her siblings and Roman were first handedly seeing that. They were glad she appeared to be getting better but it was also an indication she was bottling her feelings like per usual. They all knew it was a bad thing but they would had been hypocrites for even saying she shouldn't, when they all full well know they do the same thing.
Now, Kaya and Sage had been at a local but favorite diner of theirs. The older of them would occasionally get some fries and a soda whereas Sage would get a hot dog and nachos to go with her usual strawberry milkshake. The food was definitely high quality, or at least as high quality as it could.
"Sage, lay off the nachos would you" the twenty-seven year old chuckled, seeing her younger half-sister dive into the nachos, immediately.
"I can't help that I'm hungry" she sarcastically replies, just scarfing down the delicious nachos engulfed in cheese.
Kaya only looked at her in amusement, glad she was back to her old self again. Although, she obviously questioned if she was okay. "Sage, you know, you can talk to me if—"
"I'm fine, Kaya" she quickly interrupted, munching on her nachos without a single thought.
"Sage—"
"I said I'm fine. So, please stop pushing the subject like you always do. We all have enough grief for a life time, so let's it stay in the past" she dismissed, speaking coldly.
Kaya looks down at her fries, deciding not to speak any further on the topic. She knew that she always got like this but figured she might as well try. She always avoided the question or even suspicion that she's not okay.
It obviously wasn't healthy for her in any way, she knew that but in order to not show weakness, she had to be okay. That's the one thing she couldn't be.
Hours later, she returns to her humble house, having already spent enough time with Kaya for the day. She begrudgingly puts her keys in the door, practically slamming the door open. She heavily sighs at the noise, even if she had caused it. She runs a tired hand through her brunette locks as she enters and throws her keys on the countertop, making sure they stay there.
She stalks up the stairs, aiming for her bedroom, seeing the door was open. She slowly ceases her moments, needing to take precaution. She never leaves it open but it could had just been Roman again. Although, he doesn't have a key to her place, so that's ruled out.
She creeps towards the door, hoping it was Roman or not a burgaler. Her gun was in the drawer and her bat was under her pillow cases, so that was unavailable. Her footsteps caused the floorboards to creak, adding to her deep tension forming in her head.
Finally, she peeks over her shoulder as she arrives at the doorway, to reveal another sibling of hers, one she'd rather avoid if not at all.
"Will, what are you doing here?" she asked as he turned around from her window, now facing her.
With a smile, he waved with a greeting, "Can't I visit my sister?" he asks mocking an offended tone.
"Not at eight in the evening and after I spent most of my day with Kaya, which sucked ass" she sighed as she entered her room, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"And why did it 'suck ass'?" he chuckled, mocking her choice of words.
"She pretty much patronized me about my feelings and hanging out with her always sucks" she deeply chuckles.
"Not always."
"You sure about that?"
"Okay, more often than not, yes" he laughs as he takes a seat next to her. "But, you do realize we're always here for you?"
"Oh my god—I know that!" she groans, having heard all three of them say that almost a thousand times. "I have heard you three dipshits say that over and over again. Even Roman sounds like a broken record player! I get it, if I need to spout out these mushy ass feelings and talk about how life sucks, I'll go to you four!"
"Sage, we're just trying to be there for you—"
"I know! Just because I'm not a crying mess doesn't mean I'm not okay! I am not weak and I don't need your constant worry, okay?!" she yelled, surprising William. He only stood on his side of the bed, processing her words. He didn't think it bothered her that much and it only really proved how it was all building up. The stress, anger, the sadness. It was all creating a bomb that would explode and if she wasn't willing to talk, then it'd keep on ticking, no matter what.
"...Okay. I'm sorry of we were pushing you" he sincerely mutters, not wanting her to lash out again.
"God—I'm sorry, Will. There's just so much going on and I fucking snapped—"
"Don't apologize, just sit with me, would you?"
"Fine" she half-heartedly smiled, taking a seat on the edge of the bed. "Now, what's going on? I'm sure your life is more eventful than mine."
"My life is anything but eventful" he jokes with a smile.
"C'mon, there has to be some kind of things I don't know about yet."
"Well, my mom is getting a new job and my dad got promoted?"
"Now, there's something! Actually, what was their jobs, again?" she laughed, beginning a whole new conversation that lasted almost the whole night. They had finally began to catch up again, having not spoken for some time. Out of their families, they were the ones to get along the most.
And for once, Sage felt like she was at home, or in some variation of it. But as always, she'd take what she could get.
