The Game is Back

found it

after a couple hours i found what i was looking for; a shovel. it was in a small shed in the school grounds but i looked at it in dismay, the handle was made of wood which was still in pretty good condition but the actual shovel part was rusty and brittle. i grabbed it anyway hopping almost praying that it would work. i let out a loud yell that broke the unearthly silence of this place. i walked to the graveyard and sat under the willow tree enjoying the relief of its shade. soon everybody found me, most were empty handed but Fletcher hand found a pitchfork and Sophie had found a gardening hoe. i smiled and showed them the shovel.

Lets get to work" i smiled "But we're going to have to take it in turns"

there were nods of agreement and some moans of reluctance but nobody really spoke about the gruesome thing we were about to do. we split up into groups i didnt pay attention to where everbody else was but in my group was Ekkia and Julia. i went first forcing the shovel into the hard, dry ground. we had gotten the pleasure to dig up Ms. Tetree and that somehow seemed worse than digging up the children. i checked my watch after diging a hole maybe 30cm deep and 20cm wide and i was surprised to see that we had been gone four days.

"Crap" i muttered

"What? whats wrong?" Julia said fear edging her voice

"Its been four days since we left" i said feeling all emotion drain from my voice.

"WHAT?" Julia yelled causing everybody  to turn around startled "FOUR FREAKING DAYS?" 

i nodded solemnly, starting to dig again ignoring for what seemed like the thousandth time the panicked cries and arguing. 

"We need to get the hell outta here" someone, Sophie i think, screamed

"Wait hows that possible its hasn't even gotten dark?" 

"what in God's name is happening?"

"Everybody" i said finally "The faster we destroy these bodies the faster we get out of this god forsaken place"

silence followed my words and i continued to dig marvelling at how strong the shovel was despite its appearance. after a couple more shovelfuls of dirt i handed the shovel to Julia and sat down next to Ekkia for a couple of minutes we sat in silence before she spoke.

"Iz, what do you think is happening?" she asked curiously

"I have no bloody idea" i replied "Yet i am strangely enjoying it all"

"You always talked about how boring life was and how you just prayed for an adventure" she said fondly looking back on our strange yet interesting talks

"I was hoping for a zombie apocalypse but this will do" i replied smiling 

"This does make you feel alive doesnt it?" she said and i grunted a reply that i hopped sounded like a yes

julia looked towards us and handed Ekkia the shovel, i saw that she'd made a decent sized hole. ekkia took the shovel silently and took Julia's place digging. it didn't feel long but it was probably hours when the shovel hit something hard.

"Guys i found something" she called and immediately everyone dropped what they were doing and jumped into the hole to help Ekkia uncover the Ms. Tetree sized coffin. once it had been uncovered completely, everyone jumped out as quickly as possible as if Ms. Tetree skeleton would jump out and grab them. i jumped in the hole then, i was surprised at how shallow it was only a couple meters deep but then again over the years it had probably moved closer to the surface. using the shovel i pried the coffin lid off.
