Chapter 18

Jake's p.o.v

The word of the new Great Prophecy spreaded around the camp ike wildfire. For some reaosn i felt like i should be part of it. it would be my first quest. i didnt tell Nico or anyone about it.

                                   As i hear the horn go for lunch, Nico and I headed for the pavilion. on my table there are only 3 people; Nico, Hazel and I. As we sit, on my plate appears pasta with my favorite sauce and as a drink; pomegranate juice. Just how mom would give it to me. I started tearing up at the memory. 

                                 Unfortunately, Nico notices. He starts to question me, but looks at the plate with shock. "Umm...Nico? Jake? Are you guys alright??" Hazel asks, confused. "Our mom-" Nico cracks. "Our mom used to make it for us before she...died." I finished. Hazel's eyes soften with symapthy. Life isnt easy for us.

             Our lunch was interrupted by Chiron's speech. "Good afternoon heroes. As all of you heard, there is a prophecy going around camp. i would like some volunteers from our camp, the warriors and the hunters. Maximum of 13 people. Stand up if you wish to join." And there was silence. Max stands up "i would like to volunteer."

Talk about being brave. He's as new as I am. Simoultaniously, Annabeth and I stand up. Nico shoots death glares at me. He stands up too. From the Aphrodite table, lucy stands up. Gasps runs aound the pavilion. Oblivion and 2 other warriors stand up. 3 seconds later, Thalia stands up. 

                           There is a flash of light and ther stand Artemis with 2 other hunteresses. One more to go. And Jayce stands up. What a suprise (not)."13, thats all! Oh and Capture the Flag today is cancelled." Groans come from the Ares table. 

                      After Lunch, i ditch Nico and find Jayce. "Hey man. Thats cool of you to join. The name's Jake, Son of Hades." i say to him. "You probably already know me. im Jayce, Son of Chaos." Jayce replies, shaking my hand. "Wanna practice swordfighting. We're gunna need it on the quest." He shrugs.

             We both head to the swordplay arena. I help find Jayce a sword. There is this really cool blade,  It has black and red swirls on it. "What about you?" Jayce asks. I close my eyes and concentrate on summoning my sword. Soon i feel the familiar grip of my sword. I open my eyes to see Jayce slackjaw. "W-What?" i smirk. 

                     I challenge him to a deul and in a second we are trying to pin each other down. Everyone stops and gather around us to watch. I try to go for Jayce's weak spot, but he defends really good. I slash, he dodges. He trips me with his foot, grabs my sword and points his sword at my neck and pushes my sword behind my head. There is silence except of Jayce's and my heavy breaths. 

                  He dips his sword and offers me my sword back. He smiles, extending his free hand to help me up. Returning the smile, i grab his hand  as he pulls my up. This is is worthy of being my friend. He is just plain awesome.
