Joshua’s POV

Joshua was sitting in his living room staring at his TV so deep in though he didn’t even notice the television was still turned off. He couldn’t get Aira’s situation out of his mind.

He still had doubts if someone was really after her. It was as people said; he’ll believe it when he’ll see it. All he had were the sounds from the phone and even then he hadn’t even heard much. The scariest part was when he didn’t know what was happening because he couldn’t hear anything and that didn’t prove anything.

He couldn’t even share his doubts with Aira, who would not only be offended but would also make him feel guilty for it by telling him she risked her life to get the evidence all over again. He already had to deal with her tears way too many times already.

He was also worried because if nobody was after her she would have to be unbelievably delusional to do that. To actually believe someone tried to suffocate and make the right sounds… It bothered him because he knew she would never stage something like that if she were sane. She was never good at manipulation, plus she despised it. But he couldn’t stop himself from wondering if it was just a plan to get out of the hospital.

On the other hand it made him even more frightened to think that it was all real and there was a killer after her and she actually was in danger. The call he got from an unknown number at night made him suspicious and when it was followed with silence he was so close to ending the call. He didn’t want to think what would happen then.

Would Aira give up then? If he hung up on her she would think no one would believe her anyway and what would she do then? Was he just self-absorbed to think she couldn’t do it on her own?

He needed to stop thinking about what ifs or he would go crazy.

The call shook him up really bad. The fear I heard in her voice when she talked to me as the danger had passed made me want to protect her. He was so tired and he knew he would be later when he stayed on the phone with her the whole night, when he stayed on the phone even after she fell asleep, just in case she woke up with a nightmare.

The most ridiculous part is that he probably needs to get her out of the hospital he just returned her to. He still wasn’t convinced as she didn’t tell him the details and he didn’t push her to tell him because she was in shock and scared. Plus he didn’t want her to relieve it all over again. She was supposed to tell him the details later and even the description of that guy who attacked her was very vague. The only thing she was certain on was that he was a guy which really didn’t say much. It made him unsure if it was smart to believe her. Couldn’t she at least tell him the size of this guy?

She did claim it was dark and that was the reason she didn’t see him. It did seem likely because it happened at night but wouldn’t the halls of the hospital have the lights on even if it was in the middle of the night?

Or was she making it up?

The attacker was either made up or he really existed.

Whether he existed or not didn’t even matter anymore. The decision was made. He would play along with this charade for a while and if the attacker was real then great, if it wasn’t he still needed to be there for her in case she really was that delusional. She was desperate and desperate people do stupid things and he couldn’t let that happen, which was why he was going to help.

He needed to do something immediately. He needed the details before he did anything so he called Aira.

“Hey, I need details about what happened last night. Could you tell me what happened?”
