I returned home to an empty house. Aunt May was at the hospital, of course. Gwen had only stayed for a few days, and I already felt empty without her.

I wandered into the guest room, which was stripped of the few belongings that she'd had with her. I sat on the bed, running my hand across the rumpled bedsheets. I could smell her perfume faintly on the sheets. Her perfume smelled much like Mary Jane's had.

Mary Jane. I'd forgotten all about her! I didn't have any classes with her after the semester changed, and she made sure to avoid me, anyway.

What would Gwen do if she found out about our kiss? Would Gwen be angry? Would she be embarrassed? I grew frightened. How could I tell her?

My thoughts were interrupted with a loud crash. I gasped, leaping from the bed. I ran to the window, peeking through the floral curtains, just in time to see a metal trash bin sailing in my direction. I leaped from the window as the glass shattered.

Fragments of glass littered the carpet. I carefully stepped around them, returning to the hole that used to be a window. I looked outside, feeling the afternoon breeze swirl into the room.

Several more objects were flying in different directions. Where were they coming from? My attention was then focused on another object. It was a dark figure, flying around on its own. It resembled a bird, with wings. It dived to the ground, tearing a mailbox from the earth, tossing it in another direction. And then I saw it's face.

It was the Vulture.

Our eyes met. "Peter Parker!" He chuckled. He knew me? I just stared at him.

"You were a friend of Harry's weren't you? Too bad you sided with Spider-Man, huh? You would have had a great future." He bared his yellowing teeth at me, then lifted another mailbox. I ran deeper into the house as he hurled it at me. I heard a crash behind me as more glass was shattered.

As far as I knew, Harry Osborn was the only member of the Sinister Six that knew I was in fact Spider-Man. Apparently Harry had only mentioned that I was on Spider-Man's side. Interesting.

In order to not blow my cover, my alter-ego had to approach the Vulture from a different direction. I ran into my bedroom, quickly changing into my Spider-Man suit. Then I exited the house through the side door, preparing to circle the neighborhood. But that would only work if I didn't get caught in the process.

My spider senses alerted me of an object being thrown in my direction. I dodged another trashcan, leaping behind a house. I then peeked back around the wall, seeing the Vulture standing in the middle of the road.

"Peter Parker...Spider-Man? You betrayed your best friend. You are Spider-Man. You are a freak! You aren't normal. Stop trying to be. You will get what you deserve...your death!" He flapped his arms, which had wings attached to them. He hovered over the ground, laughing to himself.

I leaned against the house, squeezing my eyes shut, biting my lip. He found out.

The Vulture soared in my direction. I grabbed the trashcan that he'd thrown at me, throwing it back to him. He didn't move out of the way in time, so it smashed into him, causing him to fall to the ground.

I turned my head to see a child playing in their small backyard, about to enter the scene. I swung over to her, snatching her up, taking her to the other end of her house. She gasped when she saw me.

"Go inside, alright? It's going to get really rough and dangerous out here," I told her. She went inside reluctantly.

I returned to the road to find the Vulture struggling to stand. I swung to him, smashing my feet into his chest. He fell back down from the impact. He sat up, then flapped his arms before I had the chance to hit him again. He hovered above me, and I shot webs at him, only to miss. I was unable to get as high as he was, since I was limited on things to swing from in the suburb.

"Catch me if you can, Spider-Man!" He shouted at me, flying in circles. I hurled a grill at him, and he dodged it. The grill clattered to the ground, breaking into several pieces. Coal and ashes poured out of the top of the grill. I shot several more webs at the Vulture, an one finally stuck to his leg. I pulled myself up to him, latching my arms around his leg.

"Hey!" He squealed, kicking his leg ferociously. "Get off!"

"No," I barked at him. He flew up and down, in circles, and back and forth, all at very high speeds. He continued to kick his leg, causing me to have difficulty. I shot a web at his other leg, then bound his legs together. He cried out in anger, tugging at the webbing, trying to free his legs.

While that was distracting him, I shot another web at his left arm. I pinned it to his side. He was then unable to fly properly, so we plummeted to the ground.

Right before we landed, I let go of him, landing on my feet. The Vulture, however, landed on his left side with a thud. He moaned. I removed his wings and harness, snapping them each in half. I tied him up again, also covering his mouth, then carried him as I swung to the police department.

When I arrived, I dropped him on one of the police cars, setting off the car alarm. I dropped the pieces of his wings and harness on the ground beside him, then swung away as several police officers poured out of the building.
