Chapter 9: Announcement

Percy felt horrible.

He couldn't show it, though. He agreed to being Annabeth's friend, and he genuinely wanted to do that, but he really didn't want to break up with her. Percy has know Annabeth since he was 12, and it really kind of.. hurt.

Was he not good enough? Did he do something wrong? Does she not like me?

Percy decided to try not to think that, and have a good time, finally getting a vacation after what seemed like forever. Demigods barely get vacations, and Percy should take advantage of it.

Percy looked around. It was a sunny day, with a bright blue sky and a few clouds. The air smelled like flowers and summer. They were at the Lincoln Memorial, everybody reading and looking at the historical stuff.

Percy was not interested.

Then, he felt someone tap his shoulder. Percy turned around to see a pair of kaleidoscopic eyes and chocolate brown hair that was braided to the side with orange feathers in it. The orange really complimented her brown hair, reminding Percy of these chocolates which had an orange filling, that his mom used to bring him from work. They were the only candies that Percy liked that weren't blue, back then.

"Perce? Can I talk to you?" Piper asked. Percy nodded, and they stepped aside from everybody else.

"So... do you.. want to tell me anything.." she said awkwardly, wincing from saying it after.

Did Piper already know what happened..? She probably did, maybe Annabeth told her. Or not.. he didn't know.

"Uh... do you.. know what happened..?" Percy asked, his eyebrows arching up.

"Yeah, I do.." Piper admitted.

"Okay.."

"Um, I honestly just wanted to check up on you. Are you okay?" She asked.

Percy wanted to say no. He wanted to break, and tell her everything and how he felt, but he couldn't do it now. It wasn't the right place or time.

"Um, can we talk about this later, Pipes?" Percy asked.

"Oh my gods. Yeah, I am so sorry. That's so stupid of me to ask you right now. Do you know what? Just forget about it. Please, Percy, have a good time. Okay?" Piper said, and she squeezed his hand. A chill went up bus spine. Percy nodded.

"So, anyways, um, did you notice something odd with Jason? He looks like.. Nico before he got together with Will. Like, depressed or something.." Percy said, trying to change the topic.

"Gods, yeah I actually did. I thought I was overthinking.." Piper said, glancing at Jason who was leaning against a big stone wall, looking down. Jason was usually so energetic and optimistic for everybody, making sure that they were okay. This didn't look like Jason.

"I'm kinda concerned.." Percy said.

"Yeah.. I'll talk to him tomorrow. Today is the second to last day with Annabeth and Jason, we have to make it good. Today, let's just have fun. Okay?" Piper said, looking concerned.

"Of course."

---time skip to when they get back to the hotel---

They got back to the hotel at about 6:00, after going everywhere. They were going to go to a museum, but it was closed and also insisted to go back early so they could explore the hotel and stuff.

"Want to tell them now?" Annabeth whispered into Percy's ear, and he reluctantly nodded.

When they were in the living room, about to put on a movie, Annabeth got everyone's attention.

"Um.. so, just letting you know, Percy and I broke up." Annabeth said.

Everyone except Jason and Piper gasped.
