Hello people! Welcome back to another chapter. !*READ THIS: I know I said before that this took place 4 years after the war, but I'm gonna change it to 1 year. It would work better with the story, and 4 years is just too much apart.*! So yeah, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own PJO/HoO.

----Jason----
Jason was relieved to be back.
He's always liked New Rome. Don't get him wrong, he loved Camp Half-Blood, but Camp Jupiter had a different style to it. Honestly, he liked both camps. If you asked him which one he liked better, he wouldn't be able to pick.
It was a child of Jupiter or Zeus thing, hesitating so much. He hated his father. Oh, and, don't forget about his cruel-enough-to-be-Gaea stepmother.
But Jason shouldn't be thinking about that. He should be focusing on whats happening right now.
Right now, it was about 3:00 PM. He was in the Mess Hall, sitting down at the fifth cohort's table. Now, it was the most honorable cohort, along with the first. That was nice, at least.
The camp was having a feast, in honor of Annabeth and his presence.
"So, you guys understand everything, right?" Sean, the son of Mercury, said, kneeling, his orange eyes meeting Annabeth's.
"Yeah. Actually, most of us have been here before." Jason said, giving him a sarcastic smile, his eyebrows raised. "I think we are fine." He stated, a kind of bitterly.
"Uh... okay... Well, I have to go. I'm in the first cohort, so I don't sit here. See you later, Annabeth." Sean said, kind of like he was bragging, in Jason's opinion. He flashed Annabeth a smile, as well as Frank and Hazel, and took his leave.
Annabeth swatted him. Jason wasn't expecting that, and a lightbulb nearby flickered.
"What was that for?!" Jason said, rubbing his arm.
"Jace, you were being so mean! Why?" Annabeth scolded.
"No I wasn't! And it isn't my fault that he rudely interrupted me while I was talking before..." He said.
"When did he interrupt you?"
"See! You don't even remember!"
"Sorry, Mr. Praetor, but you were being pretty salty from what I've seen, " A red haired girl on a couch across from them said, stretching the 'T'. She was wearing pigtails, had purple, glittery framed glasses on, and wore braces. She looked about twelve years old. "The names Daphne, daughter of Trivia. Fifth cohort, as you can see," She said, munching on a turkey leg.
"Uh, hi. I'm Jason. I think you already know that." He blinked.
Daphne nodded, and then directed her attention over to some mashed potatoes.
"She's right. I know that you might be stressed and all, but don't take it out on him," Hazel said in a calm voice.
"Okay..." Jason sighed. "Sorry. I'm stressed, and it isn't Sean's fault."
Annabeth turned to Jason. "Well then, I would like you apologize to him. Wait, no. You will apologize to him. Okay?"
"Fine..." He grumbled.
Then, that Daphne girl spoke up, grinning ear to ear. Frank saw this and he rolled his eyes. "Ooh! Guys! Yes! Finally!" She exclaimed. "Can you guys pretty please go to Mount Diablo for me?"
Jason raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Daphne rolled her eyes and huffed, like she had to say this a bunch of times before. "So, basically, I'm a daughter of Trivia and stuff, the goddess of magic. I lost this really important magical necklace that could only be found by praetors. When my mom gave it to me, my... um.. brother.." Her expression darkened. "He was praetor then, so I didn't have to worry about anything. Now he's... not. So can you two try to find it?"
"Um... Why didn't you ask Frank and Reyna?" Jason said, looking over to Frank.
Daphne glared at Frank. "They said that they didn't have time. I could tell that they were lying."
"I promise, I didn't have time!" Frank frowned. Hazel rolled her eyes at them both.
"Sure! We'll do it. In fact, we'll do when we are done eating, after Jason apologizes to Sean. Now, that is a good plan. It's on Mount Diablo, right?" Annabeth sipped on her grape juice.
Daphne grinned. "Yep! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
~~~~~~~~
"Hey dude, can I talk to you for a second?" Jason tapped on Sean's shoulder, who was standing, studying something that Jason couldn't really see. He turned around in alarm, and put the thing behind his back.
"Oh, hey Jason! What happened?" He smiled.
Jason slightly raised an eyebrow. "Uh.." he quickly glanced behind, to see Annabeth standing a few yards away, crossing her arms. "I just wanted to apologize. For being rude to you. I was a bit stressed lately, and I shouldn't have tooken it out on you. So I'm sorry."
Sean raised his eyebrows. "Oh! Well, thanks. It's fine, really. No problem. Uh, you can go back to doing that thing Daphne asked you to."
"Oh, how do you know about that?" Jason exclaimed.
"Are you kidding, dude? She's been ecstatic since she found out you guys were coming to be praetor so she could ask you to find that necklace of hers. Well, good luck then."
"Bye, Sean." Jason smiled at him, and then walked over to Annabeth.
"So, how did it go?" Annabeth asked, as they walked side by side on their way to Mount Diablo.
"Good. He said it was fine. But he was being kinda suspicious..." Jason said.
Annabeth groaned. "What is your problem with this guy, Jace? We've known him for less than a day and you already had to apologize to him for being rude, and started getting suspicious of him."
Annabeth was right. But his gut was telling him that there was something up with this Sean guy... "Look, I know. But when I walked to him, he was looking at something really intensely. When he noticed I was there, he hid it behind his back, and then after I apologized, he rushed me to walk back to you. It's just suspicious, y'know?"
The other blonde rolled her eyes. "There could be so many reasons for that, Jason. Maybe he's just a private guy. Maybe it was something personal to him. Who knows?"
"Look, Betsey," Jason said, using the nickname he'd given her a few months ago, that he'd stopped using for no reason in particular. "The only reason that you're defending Sean is because you have, like, a major crush on him. The least you can do is tone it down, and be unbiased."
Annabeth's grey eyes widened. "I do not! That is so childish."
"Sure..." The son of Jupiter said, stretching the 'U'.
"Anyways," Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "Some Vulcan kids gave me this..." She took out a bronze compass, with the name 'Adrian' engraved at the bottom. It was pointing forwards, the direction that they were going.
Jason inspected it, and stopped in his tracks.. "Adrian? As in Adrian Devore?"
Annabeth looked at him. "How'd you know his last name?"
"He was... oh my gods. I'm so stupid..." Electric eyes widened, as a wave of realization washed over the son of Jupiter.
"No you're not. And what is it, Jason?!" Annabeth pushed.
"Adrian Devore was a former praetor a few years before. One day, he just disappeared. Nobody knows where he went. I think that Adrian is Daphne's sister..."
"Wow. We'll have to ask her later on then, I guess," The daughter of Athena said, as they started to walk again.
"Yeah. But now, we have to find that necklace. I have a feeling... that it's really important."
