Insomnia

Its 12am and I can’t sleep;

Thoughts are pounding through my head.

Those red numbers on my clock

Tick and on and taunt, taunt, taunt.

I am tired, oh so tired, but my head won’t let me sleep.

You see, you see, it’s a condition

And I am an insomniac.

It’s 3am and I can’t sleep;

And lover, you’re on my mind.

Your beautiful caress is filling up my head,

So now my eyes won’t bind.

But I am tired and my body has fallen asleep.

But you see, you see, my mind’s eyes are only just open

And I am an insomniac.

Now its 6am and morning dawn

Is flooding up the sky.

The light seeps in and brushes the floor,

Awakening all but me

Because I am already awake and my eyes burn from opening all night.

Now you see, you see, I cannot tell anyone, they wouldn’t understand

And I am an insomniac.

The day has gone by and once again I am in bed,

It is 12am once more.

The moon has risen, the stars are alight,

And my mind comes out to play.

I cry, I shake, I am always awake and I can take no more.

You see, you see, I have not slept in days.

Because I am an insomniac.

Inspired by my inability to sleep.
