Chapter 22:
"It's the big house at the end of the street. Over there.", I tell my dad, pointing at the familiar looking building. He follows my finger's direction and says surprised: "It looks like our home."
I just nod and grab his arm, dragging him along when he stops, staring at the house. The small way up to the house seems to be so long and I can't even look at the beautiful flowers around me. I just want to be with Louis.
A few metres away, I release him and run to the door. Impatiently I ring the doorbell and I start tapping at the wooden door when I can't hear someone nearing it on the other side. Finally steps are coming closer. I can tell that the person is running and a smile climbs onto my face.
The door is opened and before I can say anything, Louis jumps onto me, throwing his arms around me. I stumble and fall down, but never let him go. I don't care that my bum will hurt, everything that matters now is that my Lou is clinging to me and I can hold him for as long as I want.
Louis head is buried into my shoulder and I softly draw small circles on his back. It feels like time has stopped and we are in a different world, just the two of us. I don't care what is happening around me, Louis is what is important.
Carefully I stand up with Louis in my arms. Then I step inside of the house and kick off my shoes. My dad follows me and shuts the door behind him.
Without letting Louis go, I walk into the living room and sit down onto the couch there. I pull him closer and start swaying us back and forth, attempting to calm him.
Slowly it works and his sobs die down. "I was so worried about you.", he whispers.
"What if something would have gone wrong?"
"But everything is alright. Don't think about what could have been. I'm here now.", I reassure.
Louis nods but he still doesn't let go of me. Not that I'm complaining - I love it when he holds onto me.
My dad clears his throat and says: "Uhm.. thanks Harry for getting me out of there. I didn't want you to do this because it was just too dangerous. What would you have done, if something went wrong?"
I sigh and rub small circles on Louis' lower back. Laying my head on his, I take a deep breath and his fresh scent hits me. I look at Henry and answer: "You're my dad and I needed to get you out."
He presses his lips into a thin line and I know that he isn't exactly fond of my decision.
"I would have never forgiven myself if something happened to you.", my dad says quietly. I smile.
"This is what I mean. Even though you're not my biological father, you're still my dad and I couldn't let anything happen to you. You're my family.", I explain.
It's obvious that Henry is trying to hold his tears back and if Louis wasn't clinging to me I would've hugged him but now I just smile at him.
Then I hear steps coming closer and Jay walks into the room. "What is going on here?", she asks. When she sees me and Louis sitting on the couch she smiles and says: "I'm glad you're back Harry. Louis was worried sick. He wasn't even eating properly."
I sigh sadly. "Lou, don't do something like that! I promised that I'd come back and I did, didn't I?", I whisper into his ear and he breathes out a quiet "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Just don't do it anymore.", I reply. I could never forgive myself if something happened to him. Louis was the most important person in my life.
"Who are you?" Jay's voice pulls me out of my thoughts and brings me back to 'reality'. I look up and find her staring at Henry. He seems uncomfortable with the attention on him.
"I'm Henry, Harry's guardian. I was originally hired by the science organisation to watch out for him but when they wanted me to, I couldn't bring myself to experiment on him, so I tried to help Harry instead. They found me and locked me in their main building.", he says and I add: "He's my dad."
Jay nods understandingly and then asks me: "And what about your parents?"
"Parents?" Confusion is written all over my face. What does she mean?
"I mean your biological mother and your new stepdad. Do they know you're back?", she specifies. My eyes widen. She's right. I was born here and therefore somewhere have to be two people who are considered my parents. But I can't remember them. What am I going to tell them? They'll be so hurt when they realise that I've no memory of them.
"No, Anne and Mike don't know that he's back.", Louis speaks up. He doesn't leave my embrace but he lifts his head to look at his mum. "They think he's still working with the best brains of the whole world."
"Anne and Mike?" My voice breaks and I stare into Louis' heavenly blue eyes.
"Your mum and your stepdad.", he says, his voice soft like silk. I close my eyes and try to calm down. Obviously, I have to have parents but it was just so unexpected. I can't remember them and I wasn't thinking of them before, so when Jay mentioned them I didn't know what to do.
"Anne sounds familiar but I have no clue who Mike is.", I say quietly.
When I open my eyes, I find three pairs of eyes staring at me. I have made a decision. "I want to see them. I need to remember them."
~~~~~
Louis and I are lying in his bed, looking at each other and knowing that after this day it won't be easy to fall asleep. It's quiet in his room and the only noise I can hear is our breathing. It calms me.
Tomorrow we're going to see my parents and I can't wait to meet them. Although I am slightly afraid of hurting them, I know that I need to see them to maybe finally know who I really am.
"They are going to try to catch you again.", Louis breaks the silence. I sigh and let my hand glide through his hair.
"I know.", is all I answer.
"What are you going to do against it?", he asks. His eyes burn with fear and also trust in me.
"I don't know yet.", I say quietly, hoping that I finally get an idea how to not get caught by Lia and her followers.
"They are the most intelligent and dangerous people in the world. How are we supposed to defeat them?", I voice my doubts.
Louis leans in and places a soft kiss on my lips. "You'll find a way. I know it." Then he snuggles closer and I wrap my arms around him.
"Sing for me?", Louis murmurs and I start singing quietly. Not even a minute later, Lou is fast asleep in my arms and I can't help but stare at his beautiful features which are lightened up by the moonlight. He looks like an angel.
Perfect.
A smile on my lips, I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.
A last thought hits my mind:
'We could just run. Travel through time and hide. If they don't know where we are, they can't catch me.'
*****
I'm sorry I didn't update on sunday or yesterday but I was at the ophthalmologist's and I couldn't see anything the last two days because they gave me eye drops (Is that even the correct word? Blame google translate if it isn't..).
This story is coming to an end. There'll be one or two more chapter(s) and an epilogue.
