Chapter 12

Jack and Anna ran to the forest as soon as the whistle blew. Matt and I were screaming at them. Then, someone bumped in the shoulder. As they ran passed by me, I saw Kiara and Will. I noticed Will glancing at me and nudging his head towards Kiara. She was yelling at him while they were running but he ignored her.

"So what's going on between you two?" Matt asked out of a sudden. I was slightly taken aback.

"Between what?" I asked.

"Between you and Jack. There's gotta something between you two." He says. I shake my head. Although I hoped we'd become something more. Everytime I'm near him, sparks shoot through me and I feel like giving up everything to be with him.

"There's definitely something going on." I snapped myself out of my thoughts and look at Matt who shakes his head. I shrug.

"You zone out! You never do. I bet you're thinking of him." He wiggles his eyebrows. I roll my eyes. Anna and him seem perfect for each other. They notice my differences and they look good when they're together.

"Earth to Melanie!" Matt yelled. I took a step back, surprised. Suddenly, the other groups were heading towards the bungalow house. I smirked at Matt as he sighed. "We're not yet finished here."

I still keep my smirk as he drags me towards the house. All the remaining pairs were in there while the other pairs went to the forest. A counselor each handed each pair a card. It said:

You two remaining players. You all have to wait by the lake as the other two players look for the flag. when the other two will arrived and hand you the flag, you two will have to swim until the end of the lake. Don't worry, it's not that far. Those other two will be waiting at the end of the lake and that's when you get your last mission.

I was slightly thankful that I took swimming classes every sunday even if I never wanted to. And Matt. Man, he's fast. He's in the swimming varsity. I don't know if he still is but before I left, he was. Matt grinned happily. It's a good sign. Everyone headed back into the cabins and changed into our swimwear since it's part of the requirements. We all met at the lake.

"Mel!" Matt and I turned our heads to see Anna and Jack, who was holding the flag, running to us excitedly. As they approached us, Matt was able to grab it from Jack and from then, we both dived into the water.

As soon as I saw Melanie, guilt ran up my spine. I was with Kiara when all Kiara ever wanted was to ruin her. I tried to focused but I was too distracted. Matt seemed to save me since he grabbed the flag as we got near them. Anna and I breathed heavily.

"Phew..." She sighs, but still smiling. A counselor handed us another mission card:

Run to the end of the lake wherein there you will be meet the other two players. From there on, you four have to figure out four chosen questions. Each question is one person. If one fails, all has to do it again. This isn't physical. It's mental. Good luck seniors!

Savannah sighed in relief. "I prefer this than running." She says. I smile and take a deep breath. I felt a hand over my shoulder. I turned around to Kiara with a nervous look on her face.

"Hey babe, is everything alright?" She asks. 

"I'm fine." I answered coldly. She gives me a concern look and wraps her arms wround me. I don't follow her. Behind her was Will, watching us and shaking his head. I look down then pull away.
