"I don't want my daughter in that house for one second!" Miranda Payne yelled. I rolled my eyes. My parents didn't kidnap me. They adopted me. They gave me a home when I no longer had one. It wasn't fair for Miranda to treat them like monsters.

But the papers were signed, the arrangements were made, and the plane tickets were payed for. I was now under the protection of Liam James Payne. I would be going back to London with him and his band to live with him until I was eighteen. I'd asked for one more night in my parents house, so I could pack my things and say goodbye to everyone. But my biological parents weren't too pleased with the idea.

"Mum, Lena needs to get her things. Of course she can go." Liam said. He was being more reasonable about things, though I was afraid that Miranda freaking out would make him change his mind. He seemed pretty stable though.

"Those people took her away from us!" Miranda yelled. I talked myself out of punching her. Certainly that wouldn't be a good idea.

"No, they did not. The Coopers aren't the ones that kidnapped her, mum. You know that." Liam said. He shot an apologetic look to my mother. At least he was being nice.

"But I want her to be safely with you. She's not going back there." she said firmly. Maybe punching her wouldn't be such a bad idea, especially since Liam looked like he might change his mind.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Payne." Zayn said, standing beside me. "But it's not your decision to make. If Liam says Lena can go, then go Lena will."

Miranda's jaw dropped. And I was starting to like Zayn even more. I gave him a grateful smile, and he grinned back.

"Zayn is right, mum. Don't worry, Lena will be fine." Liam said. I sighed in relief and Zayn nudged my arm, and I looked up to see him smiling again. Yes, I was really starting to like Zayn. I could tell he and I could be good friends.

Miranda turned and left angrily. Liam turned to me.

"Lena, love, I'm a bit bothered letting you go as well. Please don't make me regret this." he whispered. I nodded, though I didn't understand why he was "bothered" by it either. Mom and Dad were very good to me, why were these people being so rude to them? I opened my mouth to ask him exactly that, but Zayn nudged me again. I knew he was right. I had to take what I could get.

"Thank you, Liam." I said.

He smiled. "No problem."

"Lena, don't go honey." Mom begged. I had never seen her want me around this much.

"I have to go. Liam has custody." I said for the ninth time. I didn't understand her change in behavior. Since my Freshman year, she and Dad hadn't really had any interest in spending time with me or having me around. They always made fun of my clothing choices, my grades-even though they were almost perfect-and even my interest in One Direction and other bands as well.

"We'll adopt you again. Legally this time." she suggested, surprising me even further.

"Miranda and Jake would have to sign away their parental rights, and you know they won't. So that won't work." I said.

"Lena please! Dad and I will figure it out! Just don't go!" she cried.

I zipped my bag and looked at her. At first, I was upset about all this. But I had realized something during all the paperwork and legal stuff we had to go through so Liam could take over caring for me. And that was that I had felt, on multiple occasions, like I didn't belong with my parents. Like I didn't belong in Memphis. Like I didn't belong anywhere. And maybe going to live with Liam would help me figure out where I did belong. And if it didn't, it was only a year, and I could come back when I turned eighteen if it didn't work out like I was hoping. But all of this would take too long for me to tell my mom right now, and Liam was waiting for me.
