Maddy's parents had invited her and her friends to their vacation home in the Hamptons for the Fourth of July weekend. Maddy wouldn't have even mentioned the invite to them, but she had made the mistake of picking up a facetime from her dad while hanging out with them and he had personally invited them himself. Since the invite, he had bypassed Maddy completely by going through David to get information on who wanted to come, when they were coming, and how they would get there.
"Did your dad seriously just book us all flights?" David asked, turning his laptop with a confirmation email to Maddy.
"Oh my god" She said, looking at the screen.
He had booked 9 round trip tickets to JFK.
"They love entertaining" Maddy explained. "Plus they have a disgusting amount of air miles"
David informed his friends of the plan, who all were ecstatic to see they didn't have to pay for their own flights. On the night of July 2nd, the group flew first class from LAX to JFK, landing in the morning. Once they landed, they transferred to another terminal where they were guided out onto the tarmac and at the steps of a private jet. Maddy exchanged some words in French with the pilot, giving him a kiss on each cheek before explaining to her friends that it was a family friend who owned the jet. They all piled in for the less than hour long flight, before landing at a small airport in the Hamptons. They climbed out of the plane and walked through the small airport to find a driver waiting for them with a sign.
"Are you a fucking gossip girl character?" Heath asked Maddy, making Maddy and the rest of the group crack up laughing.
They proceeded to pile into a limo, taking a short drive to Maddy's house. They pulled up in front of a stately house on a hill with a view of the ocean.
"How many bedrooms does this thing have?!" Scott asked.
"Eight. I'm so sorry though, I think some people are gonna have to share rooms. My siblings are in France so maybe not? I don't know, I can't fucking do math" Maddy said.
"You fucking better apologize! Your family flying us out to the Hamptons and then making us share rooms in your mansion?" Scott asked. "Ridiculous. I want to go back home. Driver!" Scott yelled, snapping his fingers.
Everybody laughed as they climbed out of the car. Mr. and Mrs. Laurent came out the front door, waving to everybody.
"Hello! Hello! Welcome!" Mrs. Laurent exclaimed, bypassing Maddy to give David a hug.
"WOW" Maddy said.
"I am sorry Madeleine, sometimes I get bored of you" She teased, making everybody laugh.
"Madeleine" Zane said, nudging Maddy who gave him a light smack in return.
Mr. and Mrs. Laurent helped the group with their bags, and Mrs. Laurent began showing people to their rooms. They all reconvened in the backyard, where Mr. Laurent was grilling lunch.
Maddy's friends bantered with her parents, a lot of them filming parts of the conversation as Maddy's parents were comfortable with being on camera.
"You didn't tell us your parents are comedy gold" Heath said, leaning over to Maddy.
"I didn't want their heads to get too big"
Once the steaks, chicken, and burgers were ready, Mr. and Mrs. Laurent put out an entire spread of food on the table. Mr. Laurent explained that beer was in the mini fridge outside, and brought out a few bottles of wine to scatter around.
"Does that say Laurent Vineyards?" Corinna asked.
"Yes, Madeleine did not tell you?"
"Madeleine did not tell us" Zane said, smirking at Maddy.
"My family owns a vineyard in Bordeaux. I help to manage from here, but my brother and sister do most of the work." Mrs. Laurent explained, sipping her wine.
"Y'all own a vineyard too? Cool, cool" Mariah said, making everyone laugh.
"Madeleine, why have you not invited your friends to Bordeaux?" Mr. Laurent asked.
"Dad, David can't leave the country"
"Fuck the feds" Mr. Laurent said, making everybody practically riot.
"Where did you learn that?!" Maddy asked.
"Elle, cool, right?"
Maddy and her friends hung out with her parents for most of the first day, before going to one of Maddy's friend's houses in the evening for a party with all of her friends from home. They walked about a quarter of a mile to her friend Derek's home, arriving at a house that was nearly twice the size of Maddy's.
"Yeah, we're in a gossip girl episode" Corinna said, looking at the house.
Maddy guided them to the door, where she entered.
"FRENCHIE!" A guy yelled across the room, making the entire room of about 50 people start chanting "Frenchie, Frenchie, Frenchie, Frenchie"
"Bonjour!" Maddy called back, giving people hugs.
"Frenchie" David stated.
"Worst fucking nickname ever" Maddy said through a smile.
Maddy introduced her new friends to her old friends, suddenly realizing a lot of her old friends watched her new friends' videos. The group scattered somewhat, sticking loosely together while making new friends, all of her youtube friends filmed the night (which did get a bit wild; you haven't seen a party until you see a children of rich Manhattan socialites party). They ended up migrating to the private beach in Derek's backyard for a bonfire. At midnight, everyone began chanting "USA!" to ring in the fourth. They stayed at Derek's house extremely late, only leaving after watching the sunrise to the east of his house. David and Maddy sat cuddled in a blanket Maddy had grabbed from Derek's box of blankets in his living room.
"I don't think i've ever seen the sunrise at the beach" David commented.
"That's the one thing about living on the east coast, you only get sunrise" Maddy replied.
"This is spectacular though"
Maddy put her head on David's shoulder as he kissed the top of her head.
"I need to sleep" Heath slurred, sitting down next to David.
Slowly but surely, all of their friends came and sat with Maddy and David to watch the sunrise. She led the drunk group home and most of her friends went to bed, leaving her, David, Kristen, Scott, and Mariah in the living room.
"That was so fun" Kristen said. "Honestly, I don't know if i've ever had that much fun at a party. Why don't you talk about your friends from home more? They're great"
Maddy shrugged.
"Don't get me wrong, I love them, but I can't stand this lifestyle"
"Why?!" Mariah asked.
"I don't know, I guess because it's all trust fund baby-ish and nobody actually knows how to do anything except flex their parents connections. If you think LA isn't the real world you should see the people I went to school with"
"That's pretty cool of you, frenchie" Scotty said.
"Don't get me STARTED on that nickname" Maddy groaned, leaning back on the couch into David's arm.
Everyone laughed, talked some more, and eventually went to bed, grateful to get a little glimpse into Maddy's world.
