The New Members

Chapter 3

Red Mistress's P.O.V.

So this was the Young Justice League. Humph.

'Nothing special about them.' I thought.

They looked like normal heroes. Well almost normal. I looked at one that looked like a sea creature next to a boy in a leotard and mask.

"Team this is Red Mistress and Midnight. They're your new teammates." Batman introduced us. "They'll be staying here."

Right away I noticed Midnight look at the boy next to the sea creature who I guessed was Robin.

"Hi," Midnight said. "I'm Midnight but my real name is Alex Steel. And this-" she elbowed me in the side, "Is Red Mistress but her real name is-,"

"Currently unavailable for tell." I snapped.

The team looked at each other before a tall young man stepped forward.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Nightwing, I'm the leader of the League. This is Impulse, Blue Beetle, Wondergirl, Batgirl, Miss Martian, Superboy, Lagoon Boy, Beastboy, and Robin."

I caught Robin smiling at Alex and I saw her blush out of the corner of my eye.

Miss Martian flew up to us. "It's really nice to meet you."

I grunted in reply as Midnight said, "It's nice to meet you too."

"Um so my name's M'gann but you can call me Megan if you want."

"And I'm Barbra." Batgirl said.

"And I'm Bart and he's Jaime." There was a flash as Impulse ran over to Blue Beetle and waved Blue's hand.

'Oh great,' I thought. 'A speedster.'

"Call me Conner." Superboy monotoned then walked out of the room as he saw Lagoon Boy walking up to M'gann.

"The rest of us just call by our hero names." he said.

"Okay." Midnight nodded.

"I'll show you to your room." M'gann said to me and I nodded; I needed to get away from all these people, all those boys looking at me.

I grabbed my bag and followed Megan down a hallway. Looking back I saw Robin and Alex talking on the couch.

"Here's your room." M'gann said. "I'll help you unpack your things."

I threw my suitcase on my bed before popping it open.

I took out my clothes and hung them in the closet that was in my room. M'gann grabbed a bunch of my pants and put them in the closet too.

As we worked I studied my companion. She had green skin, red hair, freckles, brown eyes and a comforting smile.

We finished my clothes and there was only one thing left to put away.

I reached in my suitcase and pulled out a package. I ripped away the paper and looked at the picture in my hand. It was me and Jason smiling together in front of the school. Alex took it the day before he died. Looking at it I started to cry. And I never cry, except for when I think about Jason. It felt weird that me, a 17 year old, was crying in front of a total stranger.

M'gann must have noticed my tears because she sat down next to me on the bed and wrapped a comforting arm around me. I pulled away and wiped my eyes ferociously before standing to leave with the picture.

"I'm gonna go see what Alex is up to."

And with that I left M'gann to think about me, the new girl, the mysterious Red Mistress.

I ran down the hall wiping my eyes and clutching the picture. I ran to the lounge and sat down next to Jaime with a huff.

"Hey." He said.

"Hey." I said looking away and wiping my eyes.

"Hey are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah I'm great." I forced a smile.

Jaime didn't look like he believed me but he let it go. "Chicken Wizzie?" He held out a chicken like thingy.

"Uh no thanks."

"No prob my hermano."

"Your what?"

"My hermano, it means friend in Spanish. For example, Impulse is my best hermano."

"Oh." I said.

Jason was my best hermano.

I turned to the tv as the news lady started talking.

"We have reports on the mysterious Red Hood from last night. It's said that four armored assassins attacked Hood and he took them down, with the help of Batman, killing one of them. More on the matter coming up soon, along with a recording and film of the fight taken by witness Steve Morrison."

"So who do you think that Hood guy is?" Robin asked as a coke commercial came on.

"Maybe he's a good guy like us posing as a bad guy for a mission." Impulse said excitedly.

"I highly doubt that."

"Who do you think it is?" Jaime asked me.

"I don't know but whoever he is, he seems familiar."

It's true he did and he looked more and more familiar as they showed the film of the fight. His fighting style was something I'd seen before. Even his voice. Then all of a sudden he screamed, "LOOK OUT!" and pushed Batman away as a plasma beam was shot at them.

I stood up abruptly, dropping my picture and stared at the tv in shock and disbelief as Hood was blasted backward.

"Race ya to the Blend!" I cried.

"I'm soooo gonna win!" Jason snorted as we took off running.

I dashed along the sidewalk, weaving in between pedestrians. I saw the Blend up ahead and ran across the street. I heard tires squeal as Jason screamed at me.

"LOOK OUT!!"

I closed my eyes as I felt something smash into me and push the both of us out of the way. We rolled across the side of the street and came to a stop. I opened them to see Jason starring down at me.

"Are you okay?" I could hear the fear in his voice.

"I-I'm okay." I whispered, aware of how close we were.

He sighed in relief and put his forehead to mine, his green eyes staring into my brown ones. Suddenly he stooped his head down and kissed me and I kissed him back before we both pulled away from each other and stared. I blushed and Jason ran a hand through his hair before we stood back up and went back to walking to the Blend and pretended nothing had happened.

My knees buckled and I collided with the coffee table, knocking over the lamp.

Jaime rushed over to me as I sunk to the floor in total shock.

"It can't be, it just can't be." I whispered.

"What can't be?!" Lagoon Boy shook me.

"Red Hood is, R-Red Hood i-is-" I looked at Alex with tears streaming down my face, before turning and running to my room.
