Note #45: They all have insecurities, just like us.

"Why-How-When-Why are you here?!" Think brain, think!!
She seemed just as flabbergasted as I was, mouth opening and closing, before she was able to utter, "I was invited...why are you here?"
Really? Really? She did not just ask that..."Because of your stupid idea," I lowered my voice, noting bystanders staring at us. I moved to knock on her forehead, "Remember?"
She glared, pushing my hand away, "Yeah, I just didn't know you would be coming here."
I resist the urge to pull out my hair and scream, breathing heavily through my mouth, "We explained this all during the last meeting we had. I would be going to the only all boys' boarding school in the area, which is this one, getting notes and stuff for our article."
She huffed, folding her arms across her chest and pouting, "I knew that, I just didn't think you'd be here, you know, partying."
"Oh," I shook my head, "yeah, I wouldn't be, but considering that this," I motioned to the middle of the building where lights frantically pulsed, "is my dorm, I really had no choice."
She nodded in understanding, leaning back into the grass again.
"Hold on," I pointed to her quickly, "who invited you?"
"Cris."
Wait, Cris? Ember knew Cris? Cris knew Ember? Were they...?
"You guys know each other?"
"Yep," she must've noticed the look I gave her, face scrunching up and hands held out defensively, "ew, not like that. He's my older brother."
My jaw dropped. If this was some anime comedy, my eyes would be bulging, jaw hitting the floor, and a question mark floating somewhere above my head. Sadly, it was not, "You two...are related?"
She nodded, "Sadly, yes."
"And you didn't think about telling anyone that your brother goes here?"
She shrugged, "No, I guess I didn't."
Yes, she may be a writing prodigy, but boy was she dense, "And why not?"
"I guess it never crossed my mind."
"Oh, okay," I forced a bubble gum tone, smiling a little too widely, "so, let's say you told Cris about me. And he, oh I don't know, saw another person with the same name as me. Then he thought, 'Hm, awfully strange that these two fine people have the same. Exact. NAME.' Finally, he'd put two and two together and ba-da-doom, plan and any chances of winning flushed down the toilet in a freakin' heartbeat," I turned to her, biting out each word, "Because. It. Never. Crossed. Your. Mind."
"First of all," she poked my shoulder, twisting her finger into the blade, "Cris doesn't speak like that. Two, I never mention my work at home. It's just how I roll."
I growled, shooing her finger away. Stupid freshmen, thinking she has everything under control. If I could, I would...
"Hey Ember there you are...with Tony?" I didn't notice I was leaning closer to the brunette, hands itching to get a good squeeze on her neck, until his voice rang clearly through the night. That's when all thoughts went on panic.
To him, I was just another guy, sitting out here alone...with his younger sister.
To him, I was just another guy, who obviously had a death wish.
