Breathing

It's nighttime. I wind down for bed. Read a few chapters in a book, drink some tea, burn a scented candle and put on my pajamas. They're soft and warm. Comforting. I crawl under my soft sheets and fluffy blankets. It's so warm in the late fall weather. My pillow is soft and squishy, perfect for my head. I close my eyes and turn off my mind. The only sounds are my heartbeat and my breathing. But then, I start to hear another sound, perfectly in rhythm with my breathing. "Maybe it's something in my nose." I think. I scratch my nose, but the sound continues. "Maybe it's one of my cats or my dog." I think. I shift my position to feel around, but no one else is in my room. At least not my pets. The sound continues, still perfectly in rhythm with my breathing. Finally, my last resort. I breath in, and hold my breath. The sound continues, then abruptly stops, like something in my room was expecting me to breath, and when I didn't, it made the mistake of making its sound.
