'Oh, I didn't realise you felt that way about me...'
'Yeah,' he replied sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck.
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes momentarily before opening them again and looking up at him.
'Look Jay, you're a lovely guy and any girl would be more than lucky to have you and I'm very sorry but I'm not that girl. I know how painful it is to not have someone return feelings for you and I'm very extremely sorry. I don't think I would genuinely be able to return your feelings, even if I forced myself and you definitely don't deserve that. Oh and don't worry, I'm not going to completely friend zone you.'
'Don't worry,' he scoffed. 'How ironic. Well, it's gonna be painful but hey, I appreciate the honesty.'
'Sorry,' she whispered, pressing her lips together awkwardly.
'It's fine. At least I can start getting over you and look for someone "I deserve", in your words.'
She smiled sympathetically, understanding the pain he must be feeling but not showing. 'Hey, how about a hug? It's the least I could do to make you feel a little better.'
'Oh you have no idea how badly I want to hold you but I can't. Cause I know that if I do, I won't be able to let you go and walk away from me... so let's just part ways here,' he sighed, finally looking into her eyes. Mustering up a small smile, he shoved his hands in his pockets and turned away from her. Sucking in a shaky breath, he rapidly blinked his teary eyes and walked away from the one person he loved most.
