season one, episode four
____yugyeom's head slumped on his desk that morning, exhaustion dragging his eyelids down. maybe going out with bambam the night before hadn't been the best idea.
he was in history, a strangely withdrawn youngjae working on his test in the desk next to him. the hind had been nearly silent when yugyeom and bambam had met him that morning, not meeting yugyeom's gaze even once. he worried that maybe youngjae didn't like him as much as bambam did.
yugyeom glanced behind, watching as jaebeom doodled on the back of his test, eyebrows knit together. he let out a soft chuckle as the boy bit his lip, a couple lines forming in his forehead as he concentrated on whatever he was drawing. yugyeom had to admit it was a bit cute.
he felt to drawn to jaebeom for some reason, as if some invisible force was urging him to talk to the other boy and possibly even become friends. he didn't know why, but yugyeom felt as though he had some hidden connection to jaebeom.
yugyeom looked forward to check the clock, running his fingers over the spine of the book sitting on his desk. it was the book about holmfirth, of which he had only read quarter of the way so far. there were only a couple minutes left in the class.
finally, the bell rang and yugyeom slung his backpack over his shoulder happily. he turned to youngjae, a grin on his lips. "hey, why don't we walk to the next class together?"
"my class is on the other side of the school", youngjae mumbled in reply, grabbing his book bag and disappearing out the door. yugyeom's shoulders slumped as he watched the boy leave, disappointment taking over his mind.
"i'll walk you", said a voice from behind yugyeom. it was the calm and chilly voice of jaebeom, his hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans as he gazed at yugyeom.
"are you sure?", yugyeom asked, unsure of it himself. jaebeom shrugged.
"what's your next class?"
"debate, with thomas", he replied. jaebeom allowed a cool smile to creep on his lips.
"that's right next to my class. i'll walk you."
"alright", yugyeom agreed and they walked out the door together. their shoulders brushed as they walked. yugyeom snuck a quick glance at jaebeom and saw him staring ahead the hall with an almost flustered expression.
suddenly, jaebeom turned his head and met yugyeom's gaze. "i'm sorry for getting you in trouble yesterday."
"oh", yugyeom said. he gave jaebeom an assuring smile. "it's okay. you didn't mean any harm."
jaebeom nodded, rubbing the back of his neck. yugyeom bumped him with his shoulder good-naturedly. "really, don't feel bad about it."
jaebeom managed an embarassed smile, ducking his head a bit. "yeah, but i should have known. i've been on thin ice all year."
"do you mind me asking why?", yugyeom questioned. jaebeom shrugged.
"sure, why not." he stared ahead again. "i failed too many classes so i had to retake the year. i should be graduated right now."
"oh", yugyeom breathed. then, his eyes lightened. "wait, does that mean you know jackson? you must've been in the same grade."
"yeah i know jackson", jaebeom answered gruffly. his face tightened. "how do you know him?"
"i met him at his store", yugyeom replied. they were coming up on his debate classroom. "he's the one who introduced me to bambam and youngjae."
"right."
