When Gavin first woke up, he didn't know where he was. His vision was blurred and his mind was so foggy that it was difficult for him to think clearly. His first coherent thought was that he was in a hospital. He could hear the soft humming of machines and a consistent beep of what sounded like a heart monitor. Plus, the bright white light shining in his face had definite hospital vibes. Yet, it didn't feel like a hospital. The bed was certainly more comfortable for one thing, and the room was much darker than a standard hospital room. And Gavin would know, he has wound up in a hospital bed more time than he could count. It was almost like a second home to him.
After a few moments, Gavin's vision began clearing up. Allowing him to see what was in front of him. The source of the bright light was coming through a window. It was snowing outside and the ground was completely covered in a blanket of untouched snow, reflecting the sunlight into Gavin's eyes. Next to his bed, an IV drip was hooked into his arm and a heart monitor keeping track of his heartbeat. It was the only thing in the room making a sound.
His head was pounding, his body was so sore that it felt like there were a ton of bricks weighing on his body. He let out a low groan, shifting his head up facing the dark ceiling.
"Detective, are you awake?" A gentle voice next to Gavin asked, startling him, not knowing there was another person in the room.
"Jesus, I am now," Gavin replied, his voice scratchy and quiet. He turned his head slightly towards the voice. It was Conan who was sitting in a chair next to his bed. Gavin was shocked to see him, he was back to perfect condition. No damage, no nothing. The only thing different was that he no longer had his standard Cyberlife jacket on, only a black turtleneck covering his chest.
"Oh, hey plastic," Gavin greeted, there was no malice in his tone this time. He was actually kind of happy to see him, or it could have been the drugs.
Conan shifted his chair closer to Gavin's makeshift hospital bed. "How are you feeling Detective?"
"I dunno, sore." Gavin met Conan's concerned eyes. "What about you? I watched you almost die in front of me. How are you not the one bedridden?" He asked, despite his slurred tongue, his tone was serious.
Conan leaned forward in his chair, even closer to Gavin. "Mr. Kamski was able to replace my thirium pump and tend to my wounds in time before I shut down. However, I'm afraid it isn't me you should be worrying about."
"What do you mean?" Fear began trickling down Gavin's spine.
"It's about your arm Detective Reed." Conan glanced down at the ground for a split second before looking back up at Gavin.
"What do you mean about my arm, it's right here," Gavin responded, lifting up his arm that was attached to the IV.
"Not that one Detective, your right arm. It was severely hurt. I wasn't able to completely protect you." Conan was unable to make eye contact with the detective, it looked like he was blaming himself for something.
Gavin looked down cautiously at his right arm. When he did, panic completely took over his body, shocked at what he was seeing. "W-What the fuck happened to my arm!"
Where his right arm used to be was a white and blue android prosthetic. It went up to his shoulder, connecting to the rest of his body. The prosthetic was attached to a few wires that were hooked up to a small machine. Gavin quickly sat up in his bed, his eyes wide with shock.
"It's okay Detective, here, have a drink of water, you need it." Conan handed him a glass of water, Gavin took a hold of it with his still human hand and gulped down the entire glass. He hadn't realized how thirsty he was till then. Gavin handed back the cup to Conan who placed it back on the bedside table.
