Gavin and Conan continued to sit on the balcony, holding each other's hands as they watched the semi-peaceful night sky.
They lived in Detroit, nothing remains peaceful for long.
Several quiet and uneventful minutes passed, it was almost as if they were procrastinating leaving the other's company.
But eventually, Gavin loosened his hold on Conan's hand and slipped away, getting up from his seat. Still gazing at the dark sky.
Conan glanced up at the detective. "Gavin?" He asked softly, cocking an eyebrow at the man.
Gavin turned around and looked at the android.
His boyfriend.
That was gonna take some getting used to.
He peered back at the city and shoved his fists awkwardly into the pockets of his jeans. "I think I'm gonna head up to the roof for some fresh air," Gavin said vacantly. As if he already knew that that was pretty weak reasoning. He already had fresh air, he was standing in it.
Conan, of course, had caught on to the detective's faulty reasoning and stood up as well, taking a small step towards the detective. "Would you like me to come with you?" He politely replied.
Gavin shook his head, staring at the balcony floor. Away from the android. "Nah, I think I need some space to think... for myself and whatnot. I just need to recharge for a bit."
Conan nodded his head, understanding. "Of course, I'll just be down here if you need anything."
Gavin stepped away, exiting the balcony. He grabbed his jacket off the "coat hanger" if you could even call the amalgamation of nails and wood attached to the wall that and snatched a pack of cigarettes off the coffee table. He technically wouldn't be smoking in the apartment complex so Conan shouldn't have anything to complain about. He gave the android a small salute who also gave him a little wave back and as he quickly left the apartment.
Once the door clicked behind him, letting him know it was close. He leaned his back against it and let out the breath he didn't even know he was holding.
A bit of excess tension rolled off his shoulders as he rubbed at his brow with his prosthetic hand, tightly closing his eyelids together.
Don't let it be misinterpreted, he was really appreciative of Conan and everything he had done. That android had saved his life on multiple occasions and got him through his recovery. He didn't have the words to properly express what he felt for him. But most of the words that he had clobbered together were highly positive.
He wasn't stressed because of anything the android had personally done or was doing. Quite the opposite actually, it was Gavin who was making Gavin stressed. He just wasn't used to having such a positive influence constantly in his life. It scared him a little. His subconscious always waiting for the moment Conan finally leaves. Realizing the mistake he had made by sticking around Gavin or when Conan-
Let's not finish that thought.
In summary, Gavin was anxious because he had first-hand experience with the cruelty of this world.
He pushed himself off the door, his body feeling like a dead-weight and headed for the roof. Climbing the six stories worth of stairs to the roof access as the elevator, of course, wasn't able to go the roof directly. Son of a bitch.
He had to force the door open to gain access to the roof. Cold Michigan air hitting the detective like an ice-covered brick. No matter how long you lived here, you could never quite get used to the Northern winters.
