Maddy walked past the flyers hanging on the walls, advertising things no one ever cared about, but as she passed one caught her eye. "2019 Kabitari Island Expedition Field Trip! Permission slips available now in the front office! Come by and pick one up now! Due by August 22! Join us on a crazy expedition!" Maddy stopped and stared at the flyer. She carefully ripped it off the wall and made her way to the front office. She pushed the buzzer. It beeped and a speaker came on. "Come on in!" Said the secretary. Maddy walked in and over to the desk where the young, sweet-toned, secretary sat. "Hi there hon! What can I do for you?" She asked cheerfully. Maddy spoke. "Hi, I was wondering if I could get a permission slip for the island field trip?" Maddy said holding up the flyer in her hand. "Sure thing hon! Will that be all?" She said as she searched through a file cabinet for the slip. "That's all, thank you!" Maddy replied. The secretary handed her the slip and waved goodbye. Maddy made her way to class and took her usual seat in first period. She couldn't wait until Friday came, especially now that she's be going on the trip. Turner turned around in his seat and looked at the whiteboard. "Ugh, homework again! C'mon, midterms are soon! We need time to study!" He groaned to himself. Maddy overheard and let out a giggle. At the time Maddy and Turner didn't know each other, all Maddy knew was that Turner would occasionally complain about the work load, but that's it. And as for Turner, he knew nothing about Maddy, he never even noticed she really existed. The class went by slowly and it felt like an eternity until their release, but finally the bell rang and the students quickly packed up and filed out of the classroom.
