I woke up bright and early that morning. I got out of bed, undressed, showered, shaved, and redressed. I brushed my teeth and hair and took a look in the mirror. It was good enough. I grabbed a room key and took and elevator down to the lobby. There was a girl already sitting down there. She had light brown hair and a light-skinned, but not exactly pale, face. I went to another bench across the room. Slowly everyone filed in. The teachers took role, and we climbed in the buses. It was about a 20 minute drive to the caves, but we finally made it. As soon as I got off the bus, I stretched, and lathered myself up with sunscreen. We were given helmets and head lights. I put my helmet on top of my head and buckled the headlight to it. We descended into the caves. It smelled like clay and dirt. The air was a bit dusty. As we emerged further into the caves, the daylight disappeared. The need for headlights was clear. The tour guide had a dull voice, and there was barely any interaction. I was growing a bit bored. I looked down another tunnel. It looked more eventful, with twists, turns, and holes. I made sure no one was watching. From what I saw, the coast looked clear. I journeyed down the tunnel. It was thrilling. Many crevices to squeeze through, and side tunnels to go down. Suddenly, I tripped backwards and fell down a tunnel into the ground. I landed on my bottom. I got up and dusted myself off. Then, I heard screaming behind me. The girl from earlier emerged from the hole in which I had just fallen from. I offered her my hand, helping her to her feet. "Are you ok?" I asked. She rubbed at her head. "Yeah, I'm fine." She replied. "Good...so why did you follow me?" I asked her. Her face went red. "Uh..well, I had fallen behind and I was trying to catch up. I saw you walking off, and I figured that was the way the group went. As I followed you further into the side tunnel, I figured you had trailed off from the group. I was about to turn back, but then I saw you fall and I wanted to make sure you were ok..." She explained with a nervous laugh. "I'm fine, thanks." I said. "Well good...now how do we get out? Gosh, it's dark." She said. She ran her hand against the wall. "Wait what's this?" She asked. She pushed something in the wall. Noises came from the walls. It sounded like gears. A door opened. We both turned to it. I looked to her and nodded. We peaked through the door. I went in front of her and checked it out. The wall was covered in cave crystals. There was a pool of water in the center. At least 8 feet deep. It probably led to the ocean, which meant there was a way out. I signaled for the girl to follow. "Woah.." She said, completely in awe. She caressed a crystal with her hand, and it began to glow. She flinched, pulling her hand back. "There's a pool." I said. "Huh?" She questioned. "There's a pool, and it probably leads to the ocean. We can swim out." I explained. She nodded. She began taking off her white sneakers and army green jacket. She was wearing a light pink tank-top and high-waisted blue jeans underneath. She tied the jacket and shoe laces loosely around her neck. I made a questioning look at her. She looked a bit flustered. "What are you doing?" I asked bluntly. "Oh um, well if you take your shoes and loose clothes off, and tie them around an area of low resistance and great support, it can help you swim." She said. "Wouldn't it be less resistance if you didn't wear any overgarments at all?" I thought. I thought that over in my head again, and realized it made sense that she chose not to. After all, I didn't even know her name. I took off my Vans and tied them around myself. I wasn't wearing a jacket, so I was ready to go. "Ready to swim?" I asked her. She looked nervous. "Hey, it's gonna be ok." I reassured her. She smiled slightly. I jumped into the pool and held out my hand for her. She gripped my hand tightly and jumped in. The water started to fizz and sparkle, then it stopped. She let go. We took deep breaths and dove under the water. We swam through the water quickly. We started to run out of breath, thankfully I could see light through the water ahead. Our heads broke through the surface and we breathed in deeply. We swam to shore. Once safe on the sand, we caught our breath. I looked at her. Her tank-top was soaked. I could see her bra. I looked up to her face. "You alright?" I asked her. "Yea, thanks." She replied. "C'mon, we better find the group." I said. She nodded. We put on our shoes, and she put on her jacket. We began hiking back in the general direction of which we came. We saw flashing red and blue lights ahead. Oh gosh. We approached the scene and a teacher ran to us. "Where were you two! We have been lookin for you everywhere!" She said. We explained the hole, and the pool, and the hike. The policemen handed us each a towel. We wrapped ourselves up in them. They check our temperatures and gave us hot chocolate. The teacher gave us her sympathies, and we thanked the policemen. We climbed back on the bus, where the rest of the students were waiting. We walked on awkwardly. I sat down with my friends and explained everything. I saw the girl sit down alone. She covered her face with her towel. My face turned to a look of concern. I turned away to face my friends. "Dude, not gonna lie though, that girl you got lost with is cute." Blake said. I nodded and laughed. She was pretty cute, and how she was so hesitant all the time was adorable. I smiled on the bus ride back. I slept heavily through the night. Tomorrow we would be leaving Kabitari.
