The next day at lesson was quite unpleasant for me, due to the fact that Benjamin wasn't talking to me. In fact, when he got into the class this morning 'cause he got in late, he didn't for one spare me a glance. I felt slightly bad, and I guess the reason for his attitude towards me was because of what happened yesterday.
After I had rudely cut the call on him and went to answer mum, I went back to my room and called him but he didn't pick up. I texted him but still, he refused to reply. So today, I made a mental note to talk to him whether I liked it or not.
Break time came after long boring classes we had. I saw Benjamin walking out of the class with Faith, Chuka and Joy. Wow! That took me aback. I was more than flabbergasted to see them walking together yet, I felt hurt and disappointed.
Initially, I was going to meet him but when I spotted the rest with him, I seized to move. The feel of anger and jealousy was flowing through my body system.
"Ruby?" Amaka placed her palm on my left shoulder.
I jolted a bit. "Yeah– yeah." I turned to look at her.
"What's the matter? Why do you look lost?" She asked concerned.
"Er...uhm...it's nothing. I'm fine." I forced a smile on my face.
She looked at me skeptically. "Sure?" She stretched to look behind me, probably to know why I looked lost.
"Yes." I chuckled in a somewhat nervous way. "I said I'm fine." I feigned a smile.
"If you say so then." That said, I started making my way to my seat. I was so unhappy, and I didn't want Amaka to notice my mood. Although, I surmised she must have noticed but nevertheless, I didn't want her jumping into conclusion with regard to my mood. "Wait Ruby." She stood me to a halt. "Ain't you coming with me for break?" She marred her brows in a slight frown.
"Er...no. I'm kinda not hungry." I said in a relaxed tone.
"Oh, okay." That said, she walked out of the class.
I sighed before taking my place in my seat. Out of boredom, I took my phone out of my bag and proceed to listening to music with my earpiece on. Whilst that was done, I felt a light tough on my shoulder. I turned to see who it was, hoping it'd be Benjamin but unfortunately, it was Prevailer.
He smiled toothily at me as I looked at him in concealed disappointment. "Why are you looking at me like that? Am I too fine for your eyes to behold?" He teased.
I laughed heartily. "You wish." I continued laughing.
He sat beside me. Quite close for my liking. "My birthday is coming up." He began to talk. "So what are you gonna give me?" He raised an eyebrow as a smile graced his face.
"When's your birthday?" I inquired.
"Ah! It's far o. It's in April." He laughed after he was done talking. He was actually just jesting around? He deserved a big knock on the head.
"You're not well o. So it's still far and you're telling me today."
"Yes na. So that you can start preparing my gift."
"Very good. Besides, we would have departed by then 'cause exam would have started by then, in fact, ended if likely." I reminded him.
"Waheva sha."
We kept on gisting and laughing. I, however, laughed more 'cause the dude was just extremely funny. He kept saying things that I couldn't help but laugh at.
As we kept on gisting, I heard a very familiar, in fact, a known voice, which made my laughter seize and also, my heart skip a bit. I was sure it was Benjamin's voice I was hearing.
