"you came late today." rose affirmed.
"yeah, i had homework."
"i'm actually closing soon..."
"oh, i can leave now. sorry."
"or you can stay here while i clean up." she smiled at me. "i mean, i think i know you in some kind of way. you're always here."
was she inviting me for a coffee?
"only if you want to, of course." she said. she was clearly nervous.
well that was cute.
i took a seat again.
"take this as a yes." i said.
there weren't only dark deep bags under her eyes, her eyes were actually red.
"black coffee as always?" she smiled genuinely.
"black coffee as always, please." i forced a smile.
she gave me my coffee and sat in front of me.
"i'm sorry to ask this, but you were at the exact same position the other day... what's your name?"
i pointed at the book i left in the table, it had my name on it.
she awkwardly smiled.
"so how old are you?" i asked, breaking the silence.
"i'm twenty. what about you?"
"i'm two years older." it was nice having a conversation with her.
"will you ever show me what you've been writing?" she took a deep breath. "will you even tell me what it is?"
"they're just some crappy songs. that's why i haven't told her."
"i don't think they're crappy. can i see them?"
i got nervous. i used her as some kind of inspiration for them, so i decided to lie again.
"i don't have them here." it didn't feel good.
"you don't have to lie, you know? you can just say no." she smiled politely.
it was getting late but i wanted to know about whatever was happening that kept her up all night.
"i'm sorry." there was a silence. "but i've answered to your questions."
"not completely. where are you going with this?"
"tell me what's wrong." i spitted it out. she could ger offended, dang.
"you wouldn't understand." she didn't get angry, good.
"do you live alone?" she asked.
"no." i didn't know what this had to do, but i just answered. i lived with my sister and a friend.
"so then you don't know."
"you'll eventually tell me, are you aware of that?" i laughed. "i have to get going now, but it was nice."
we both smiled.
"i should probably go home too." she said.
so i left.
i didn't say goodbye. how stupid of me.
