Grayson's POV
The white rays from the moon partially lit out way, the trees hiding our running figures for miles. The rain came as a light drizzle, the dirt slowly forming into mud as we kept up a good pace.
The screams and gunshots had died out, the yellow-orange of the fire still visible from so far out. We had slowed down after some time of running.
The heavy panting came as we tried to steady our breaths, Michelle let down on the floor as we stayed put.
Looking around we hadn't really known where we were, continuing with a slow walk the way were were going, away from the run down town.
We kept our guns close, in the forest not knowing what could appear, or if any people might even be this far out.
Holding Michelle's hand as we kept walking.

The sun started to rise as we kept going, we hadn't stopped to sleep or rest, taking turns to carry a tired sleeping Michelle.
We had come up to a river, gently laying the little girl down on my lap as we sat on the rocks scattered around.
Ethan pulled out three granola bars, handing one to each of us as I shook Michelle awake.
Eating in silence as Ethan took out a banana, handing each of us a third of it before throwing the peel in a plastic bag we had.
Took some swigs of water we had before we continued on. Walking with Michelle clung to my back, still drowsy from the hectic night we've had.
I was trying to think of what to tell Michelle about her grandparents, she'd already lost her parents and now them, she had no one left but the two of us.
It was no problem, I cared for Michelle like a sister, Ethan did too, we were very close to Michelle, would play with her, help with homework, sometimes babysit while her grandparents did some work at the gardens.
I wonder if anyone else made it out, were they able to escape like we were able to? Gosh it feels like when I first got out of the cellar, wondering if I was the only one left.
Shaking my head to rid the thoughts of that time, it brought back memories of my friends and family, I'm assuming they all died but you could never know, but I didn't want to gain hope, it wasn't worth it.
The only good that's really come out of all of this was Ethan, and now Michelle. They're my family now, they're my friends, I have to forget the past and move on with them. It was a hard thing to do but I didn't want them to hold me back from my life now.
I kept walking lost in my thoughts as I felt a thumping on my head before I bumped into Ethan's back.
"I kept telling you to stop..." Michelle mumbled cutely, pouted lips, droopy eyes, a loose grip around my shoulders as I held her up by her legs with my arms
I stared back at Ethan as he looked around, searching the area before focusing his stare at a particular spot, squinting as he extended his neck out, twisting his head to the side.
Looking at the same direction I saw nothing but trees and bushes. Ethan taps my arm before going towards the direction.
The closer we get the faster Ethan walks, soon enough there stands a cabin with a porch, stairs to climb up, two story with a clearing of trees but some plants overgrown from being unkept to for so long.
I stayed back with Michelle as Ethan went to go check it out. Looking in each window before going in through the back foot, it was hard to see Ethan through the dusty windows, all I could make out was a shadowy figure, I hope it's him.
After about ten minutes later Ethan comes out waving us over, picking up our things I head over to the front door, Michelle's hand in mine as we stepped into the decently sized cabin.
We set our things down as we all sat down on the couch, some dust puffing up as we landed but ignoring the uncomfortable atmosphere as we finally got a chance to rest.
Michelle laid between us, her legs up on my lap as her hair laid out on Ethan's chest, his arms holding her head up.
"So are staying here for a little or...?" I whispered over to Ethan, trying not to wake Michelle up
"I don't know...let's stay for a few days and see how things work out"
I nodded as I laid my head down on his shoulder, closing my eyes to get some rest. A soft touch on my forehead as I looked up at Ethan, smiling slightly before I gave him a soft peck on the lips, closing my eyes once again, Ethan's head on mine as we all slept.
