"Maddie?"
"No, I'm Maci. Maddie's doppelgänger."
"Doppelgänger?"I asked, looking at this girl who looked exactly like Maddie.
"It's like a twin except not the same age. I'm the older one and as the oldest, I'm supposed to check up on my doppelgänger, but seeing with this tragedy, I'm here to check up on her family. So tell me, Harry, how are you holding up?" Maci said.
"Just peachy."
"Oh, Harry, you don't have to lie to me."
"Then honestly, not too well. I miss her." I sighed and looked away.
"Ah. May I see my great great great great great grandchildren?"
"Uh, yeah. Right this way." I lead Maci up the stairs and to the twins.
"I see the resemblance."
I smiled slightly and glanced at both of the sleeping children.
"So why are you really here?"I asked.
"Because Maddie died, I figured I would come help out as much I can. I know that with me looking like her it may strike some memories and things but I wanted to help. So here I am. Also, do you really know how to take care of children?"She teased me.
"I'll manage. Thank you for coming to help."I smiled genuinely at her.
She smiled back, but I noticed a devious look in her eye, it was the look Maddie used to get.
"So, what do we do now?"I asked her.
"You have to keep me being here a secret, okay? Explaining everything to the entire kingdom is too much at one time."She said as she stroked Kian's hand.
"What about my friends?"I asked and stood beside her.
"Ahh, you see, we can't tell them either. Okay? I don't want to freak them out like that and I think it would hurt them if they knew about me right away. They might get the idea that you're trying to replace Maddie with her look a like."She said and moved over to Anna.
"Okay. I have one more question, I swear."I laughed slightly.
"Go ahead."She smiled back.
"Will you help me with these two? They're gonna grow rapidly and I want them to know the face of their mom. Even if you aren't biological their mother, you look like her and I don't want them to ever forget her face."I said and held my breath as she answered.
"Of course Harry. I'll just have to watch when the others come around."Maci now was looking right at me.
"Thank you."I smiled at her.
"Would you like something to eat?"I asked.
"Yes, that would be nice."I led her down to the kitchen.
Pulling blood bags out of the fridge, I tossed Maci one.
"Thank you."
"Do you know who took Maddie's body?"I asked.
She hesitated before answering. "No.. but I will try to help you find it."
"Okay.. thanks."
We sat down on the couch and made small talk. She told me more information and she reminded me more and more of Maddie.
"Shoot. My friends are coming over."I said as I read the text from Eleanor.
"I'll go upstairs and watch the kids."She said.
I gave her a slight nod and patiently waited for my friends. After about ten minutes, they all piled in.
Most girls were crying and the guys' eyes were puffy with tear stains.
"Hey guys."I said with a glum tone.
Various "hi's" and "hey's" were said as they all found a seat.
"How are you holding up?"Zayn asked me.
"I'm doing my best for the kids. Mostly trying to keep my mind occupied."I answered.
"Harry, it's okay to mourn. You don't have to pretend she didn't exist just to keep the pain away."Eleanor said.
"I'm not pretending she didn't exist! I have three perfect reminders upstairs of Maddiline Baden. Don't you get it? This is my way of mourning!"I had a small outburst.
"Harry, calm down. What do you mean three?"Louis asked.
"Three? I said two."I tried to cover up my mistake.
"You most definitely said three."Liam said.
"Sorry, I meant two. I'm under a lot of stress right now."I said.
"It's okay, we understand."Perrie said.
I nodded in return and mumbled a thanks.
"Girls, why don't you go check on the kids."Niall proposed.
"Wait!"I said.
"What?"They all said in unison.
"You can't go up there."
"Why not?"Eleanor asked.
"Uhm, err, I... Well.."I stuttered.
"Spit it out?"
"The twins are asleep! No point in being up there if they're asleep!"I rambled.
"We can still watch them."Danielle spoke for the first time since they've been here.
I couldn't think of anymore excuses so I led them up the stairs and hoped that Maci would hear and leave.
As we entered the room, I was thankful to find it empty of Maci and only held two, now awake twins. I let out a breath of relief and left the girls there.
Walking down the stairs, I wondered why the guys shooed the girls off in the first place and when I sat down, Louis beat me to asking about it.
"Harry, we need to tell you something."Lou whispered and it took me a sec to realize that they didn't want the girls to hear. I held up one finger and went to turn on the sink in the kitchen and the tv up to block out some noise.
"Okay?"
"We saw Maddie today."Liam said.
"Maddie's dead?"I answered. They must have seen Maci!
"No, Harry, this was Maddie. I swear, she looked exactly like her."
This just became very complicated.
