The silence was the only thing in the carriage Eren and Mikasa were in.
Why can't he understand I just want him to be safe. Mikasa thought, pulling her red scarf closer to her face. She saw Eren was resting his head on the door opposite of her, breathing slowly. She was about to start a conversation with him to make him understand, but she realized he was sleeping.
Mikasa closed her eyes and rested her head back as memories came flooding in.
"Dad! Guess what?" A young little girl shouted with joy. A man, the one she called father, turned to face the little girl. He wiped his hands of the blood of the duck he had just killed. The little girl stared at the blood, then at the duck. The animal had an arrow stuck in its chest, still breathing.
She could tell it was close to what her parents'said was death. Death was something happening to a living creature, going to sleep forever. She noticed the eyes still open, staring at her until they closed as the animal gave its last breath.
The girl shook her head slightly, a grin creeping on her face. "I made the most beautiful flower crown ever! Look!" She said excitingly, showing her father the crown. It was made of blue and yellow flowers. Her dad chuckled at the joy his daughter had on her face, glad it made her so happy to make something so simple.
"That's wonderful, Mikasa. Now... your mother wants to make your favorite dish today, but she wants you to make sure Prince Jaeger is okay since he's fallen ill, okay?" The man said, picking up the duck by its neck.
Mikasa tilted her head in confusion. "Prince Jaeger? The little boy that followed King Jaeger?" She asked, remembering the dark brown hair and striking green eyes. Her dad nodded, walking towards a cottage that was barely visible. Mikasa following him.
"Yes. King Jaeger said it was okay for you to bring him some soup. You know the one your mother has made for the ill before, right?" He questioned. She nodded her head. "Yup! I get to take it to him?"
Her father nodded. She smiled, wanting to make another friend. Her true friends were her parents, they were her light. Her reason to smile every day. It would be nice if she had someone else to bring her joy.
Soon, Mikasa was walking to a huge castle, not far from her own little cottage. A wooden box containing soup was in her possession along with some parchment with a note to allow her access to the Prince.
At first, the guards weren't so keen on letting her go into the Prince's room, but after reading the note, they let her in hastily. After all, her father was a very well known hunter, one that was rumored to even be involved with assassinations. Plus, her mother was very lovely to everyone she met.
Mikasa gaped at the room she saw. It was blue with gold etchings all over. It held a grand piano on one end and an oak drawer on another. In the middle of the room, pressed up against a wall was a gray bed.
In that bed was a boy wearing a red scarf, around Mikasa's age that was ten years old. He was sweating and coughing, looking horrible overall. Mikasa's heart ached at the sight and silently walked to the side of the bed, placing the wooden box on the table next to it.
"W-Who are you?" Prince Jaeger asked, coughing shortly after. Mikasa hesitated to answer. "I'm Mikasa. My dad wanted me to give this to you. It's soup." She said softly. Jaeger sat up at stared at the box. "Can I...eat it?" He asked.
