I Don't Think She's There Anymore - A Maya Matlin One Shot (Mixie) Degrassi

  (Put on the song when Maya talks about it)

  Ever since the bus crash, Maya Matlin has not been the same. She couldn't write songs anymore. She didn't know what to sing, she didn't feel like she was going to be happy again. Her friends all left her. And the only way she could express herself is with suicide photos. With her only friend left, Saad. He was the only person who would stick by her and do these photos with her.

  "This is where they found my dead boyfriend. He broke up with me by killing himself" Saad just looked at Maya and felt terrible for what happened. "But who cares now, let's just recreate it."

  Grace and Jonah were walking to Degrassi after mini golfing all day. They found Maya on the steps with blood all over her.

  "JONAH! CALL 911 NOW!" Grace cried. Jonah pulled his phone out but before he could dial 911 Maya opened her eyes and started laughing. "What the hell Maya! We thought you were dead."

  "What's going on here?"

  "Nothing, it's just Maya going insane" Grace muttered before leaving Maya and Saad to deal with the teacher.

   The next day Maya didn't feel like going to school so she skipped. And started to delete all her contacts

    "You're skipping school again? What the hell Maya is this you trying harder?"

  "I can't do it anymore."

  "Do what?" Her mom yelled. Maya looked at her mother.

  "ANYTHING!" She snapped back. Maya's mother felt bad for her daughter. She could have died in the bus crash. "I know you want the old Maya back but I can't find her! I don't think she's there anymore, I tried. I really tried" Maya's mother brought her into a hug.

  Katie, Maya's older sister came home to help her and their mother. Maya wanted to try and spend time with them before she killed herself. She tried to make them believe she was okay. Today she would die.

  "Maya come down for breakfast!" Maya uploaded her final song to SoundCloud, Last exit. She put the container full of drugs into her bag and present for her best friend Grace and went downstairs.

  Maya walked through the halls and saw her ex boyfriend Zig. They broke up last year because he cheated on her, now he was dating a crazy girl named Esme. She hated Maya and if she was next to Zig then Esme would freak.

  "Hey, have you seen Grace?" Maya asked.

  "No, not today. Look Esme is going to be here any second and I can't be caught talking to you. After last time."

  "Yeah, sorry about that" Zig saw Esme coming and Maya left and all he said to her was thanks. Maya walked over to Jonah.

  "Aw you shouldn't have."

  "It's not for you, can you give it to her?" Jonah smiled.

  "Nope, you'll have to give it to her at the play tonight!"

  "She doesn't want me there."

   Maya entered the theater where the play was being held. Yael walked over to her. "Isn't it so inspiring, now we can finally leave the bus crash behind us" She pointed at Tristan. Who was in a coma for 6 months after the bus crash.
 
  "Can you give this to Grace for me?"  Maya asked. Yael smiled and took Maya's gift. Maya headed to the bus  parked outside and sat down in the same seat she was in was the bus crashed. It was a new bus of course, but the seat was in the same location. She sat down and looked at  Degrassi and got her container of drugs out. And started to swallow each one by one until she had none left and put her headphones on. And tried to relax and closed her eyes and smiled.

 

  Maya woke up on the bus. He head was pounding. "I can't do anything right" she said to herself and got out of the bus and looked at the roof of the building.

  At the entrance she tried to get in but she wasn't strong enough to. Saad walked towards her.

"Maya?" He said.

   "Saad, hey can you help me?" Maya smiled. Saad opened the door. "Thank you for being my friend!" Saad walked away.

  Maya got to the roof of her school and ripped all of her stuff on the floor and walked to the edge. She looked at the parking lot and the trees. She pointed her phone out and took a picture and dropped her phone to the floor and looked down.

  "Okay this is brutal I can't!" Esme whispered to her boyfriend.

  "Where are you going it's just getting good" Zig said. Esme smirked and took his hand.

  "I'll make it worth your while" They stood up and Zig smiled.

  The two of them walked up the stairwell to the roof and when they got on the roof Zig smiled.

  "How do you know that we could get up here?" Zig asked. Esme placed her lips against his. "If I knew we were going to do this I would have came sooner."

  "Quit talking and just kiss me" Esme replied.

  "Sorry to intrude but I'm not really a theater kid but I really loved that" Yael gave Grace the present. " It's not from me, it's from Maya" Yael said before leaving.

  "I thought she stayed" The curly haired boy said.

  "I didn't even know she was coming Jonah" The blue haired girl opened the present and pulled out a guitar ring. "Why would she give me this? I should text her."

   "But you blocked her and deleted all of our accounts" Jonah said.

  "Yeah but she only has this one picture. It was just taken to, it's a picture of the trees outside of our school."

  "And the caption is weird too. What does Free as a Bird even mean?"

  After making out for a while Esme looked over to see Maya's body on the floor of the roof.

  "Zig look!" Esme scremed.

  "Maya!" He ran over to her and Esme called 911. "She overdosed" Zig was by her side trying to help her.

  Miles, Tristan, Grace, Jonah, Zoe, Esme, and Zig sat in the hospital.

  "We should have seen this coming. She deleted everything" Grace sniffled. "She made that song and looked at all those dead photos."

  "I told her to leave me alone today" Zig said. "I pushed her away and now she may be dead" Katie, Maya's sister walked into the lobby with tears.

  "She-" Katie tried to stop herself from crying. "She's dead. If you two got to her a few minutes before you did, they told us that she could have made it."
