Unexpected Love

Mommy loves you

Evan drove Jessica home.  She was completely broken.  She wanted this baby so bad, and now it was gone.

"Jess?" Evan broke the silence in the car.

"It's because I did that one scene.. my body doesn't know it's fake.  I got too upset and it made me lose the baby!"

"Jessica, no!  It just wasn't meant to be, baby.  This was not your fault!"

"Yes.. Yes it is, Evan.."

"Look Bellie!  Mommy's here!" Christopher walks over and hands Isabella to Jessica.

"She's been asking for you all night long." The sitter chuckles.

"Oh.. well I'm here, Princess." Jessica says cuddling her baby.

"Thank you so much, Maria.  I'm sorry we're a little late." Evan says.

"Oh it's no problem!  You all have a great night."

"Thank you, you too."

Jessica walked over and sat on the couch.  Isabella looked at her and smiled so beautifully.  She held her tiny hands on her cheeks as she said, "Mama!"

"Hey pretty girl.."

"Mom, are you crying?" Christopher asks sitting beside her.

"Yeah.." Jessica sighs.

"What's wrong?"

Evan sits in front of Jessica and rubs her knee.

"Well Chris.. tonight I um.. I had to go to the hospital." Jessica says trying her best not to cry.

"What happened?  Is the baby okay?"

Jessica's lip quivers and she turns to Evan.

"It's okay.
Chris.. we lost the baby." He says.

"What?  No!  What happened?"

"There's no reason.  These things just happen sometimes.  It was nothing your mother did."

"I'm sorry, mom." Christopher kisses her cheek then lays on her shoulder.

"Me too." Jessica lays her head on his.

"I was just starting to show.." Jessica looks down and places her hand on her slightly swollen stomach.

Christopher places his hand beside hers and says, "Mom, it can still happen!  You and Evan could.. you know.. try again."

"I don't know about that, baby.  I think I'm done.  I can't go through losing another child."

"Oh."

Isabella looks down at her brother's hand on their mother's stomach. "Baby?" She smiles.

Jessica takes a deep breath. "The baby went to Heaven, honey."

"Baby!" She bounces up and down as she giggles.

Jessica looks at Evan with the saddest eyes as Isabella rubs her belly.  They had been trying to get her to say baby and touch her mother's stomach, but this was the first time she actually did it.

"Hey pumpkin." Evan pokes Isabella.

"Dada?" She turns to him with a smile.

"You want daddy to read you a night night story?"

"Ya!" She nods and reaches for her father.

"Come on, pretty girl.  I'll be right back, Jess."

"Okay.."

As Evan leaves Christopher gives his mother another hug.

"I'm sorry again, mom.  It would've been cool to have another sibling.."

"I know, baby.  I'm so sorry!" Jessica cries.

"No, don't apologize!  It's not your fault!  Please don't think it is!"

Jessica nods as Christopher wipes her tears.

"Don't cry.. I love you mom."

"I love you more, honey.  Go get some rest." Jessica pats his leg and kisses his cheek.

"I don't wanna leave you alone."

"I'm okay.  I'm gonna go take a shower."

"Okay.  Goodnight." He kisses her cheek.

"Goodnight, love."

Jessica watches Christopher walk up the stairs before she places her hand on her stomach.

"My baby.. Mommy loves you.  Never forget that. Make sure you find your sister up there, okay?  Your big sister and your grandpa Al.. and a sweet sweet man I know.. Alejandro.  They'll take good care of you until mommy and daddy meet you.  Watch over us, little baby.. and always know you're our family."
