A guard walked into the king's throne room, head held high. He looked up at the king on his throne, saying, "Sir, we've found the location of Nicholas' home, just like you requested."
The king considered what to do, and then said, "Destroy it. Leave no possibility of him inhabiting that place again. Capture him, then lock him to shackles bare in the town center for everyone to see as a punishment."
"Sir, there's one issue with this idea."
"YOU MEAN TO DEFY MY RULE?"
"No, sir, it's just that... he has a dragon..."
"WHAT? Summon a dragon slayer. Move in to capture Nicholas, and the slayer should dispatch of that dragon for you once he gets there. Have him kill that dragon in front of Nicholas, and then follow through with what I've ordered."
"Very well, sir."
The king smiled smugly on his throne, certain that the death of Nicholas' dragon would break his defiant spirit. If not... perhaps the death of his mother would help.

Nicholas and Spark had played a few more rounds of Pictionary, until Spark sat up. She said, "Nick, I heard something move outside."
Nicholas replied nervously, "What do you mean, Spark?"
"Nick, grab your sword. I think we have unpleasant visitors."
Nicholas didn't bother asking what it was, because the only thing it could be is danger. He got up and grabbed his sword, being as quiet as he could.
Spark asked him again, saying, "Nick, are you certain you don't want us to leave here? Now would be a good time to change your mind..."
"Actually, you were right. Let's-"
Suddenly, a group of soldiers rushed in the cave, surrounding Nicholas. One of them grabbed him swiftly, placing his sword on his neck. Nicholas could feel the cold, sharp blade against his neck, threatening to end his life at any moment. He looked at Spark, afraid of what would happen to them.
Suddenly, Spark shouted to him in the link, "Stomp on his foot and then duck!"
Nicholas slammed his foot down on the soldier holding him, feeling the blade lift from his neck. This gave him enough wiggle room to duck like Spark had told him. As soon as he hit the ground, Spark's tail flew over his head, hitting most of the soldiers in the room and sending them flying into a nearby wall.
Unlike planned, however, the soldier was able to swing at Nicholas before he could escape. The sword sliced into his side, leaving a massive cut in his side. The cut began to gush blood, Nicholas stumbling to get up.
Spark shouted, "Quickly, get outside! I'll hold them off! We're leaving before they have a chance to catch us! Once we're outside, get on me!"
Spark ran out the cave exit to be met by a massive cluster of soldiers, all with weapons drawn. Behind them, there was a row of archers, all with their bows at the ready. Spark used her lightning breath to push through the many soldiers at the entrance, not worried about the archers.
Nicholas followed behind her, stumbling. He had a massive gash in his side, and blood flew quickly from it. He gritted his teeth, determined to not lose conscience until he was on his dragon. Spark used her body to shield Nicholas from the volleys of arrows as he climbed onto her.
She took off as fast as she could, doing her best to shield Nicholas from any arrows that went their direction. As she flew off, a massive blast of energy flew past her, grazing her side. She looked back, seeing a man with a massive piece of technology pointed towards her. It was glowing brightly, and was clearly the source of the blast.
She was able to gain more distance before another blast. The blast went through her wing, and she cried out in pain. She knew she could no longer fly, but knew that she could still glide to get as far as she needed to.
Before the man could fire another blast at her, she was out of range. She had no idea where to go, but knew anywhere was better than there.
On her back, Nicholas watched the ground as she flew. He was laying on his side, hoping to try and slow the blood flow. He had his teeth gritted, and looked down at Spark's bright yellow scales. He smiled, thinking about his dragon.
His eyes slowly closed, and he lost consciousness.

Kira was sitting outside at the base, watching as Amber ran around. She smiled, and yelled to Amber, "What are you playing there?"
"It's, um... I'm not sure, okay? It's fun!"
"Yeah, whatever you say. You go back to having fun. I'll just enjoy the..."
She trailed off, watching as a yellow streak crashed into the ground just outside of the Nightshade base. She quickly got up and darted out of the base, shouting for Amber and pulling out her daggers just in case. She ran for a couple minutes until she finally reached her destination.
In front of her, a young yellow dragon stood in front of a boy, growling at her. The boy had a massive gash in his side, and Kira didn't want him to die is she could help it. She dropped her daggers on the ground and raised her hands, walking towards the dragon slowly. The dragon looked into her pleading eyes, and stopped growling. The dragon stepped out of her way and watched carefully as she crouched down in front of him.
Kira ripped a piece from her shirt and used it as a makeshift bandage, wrapping it around the giant, bleeding gash in the boy's side. Once she was done, she placed two fingers on his neck, checking for his pulse.
When she was met by nothing but cold, she frowned, whispering, "He's dead."
The dragon lowered her head and shut her eyes, making the equivalent of a frown on her face. Kira didn't know if dragons could cry, but she found out then.
The dragon laid down as tears began to flow from her shut eyes.
