▬I was preparing the medical supplies for Chuck's Med-jack work experience when I heard a knock on the door. I turned around and spotted Newt leaning against the doorframe, smiling at me. I returned the gesture, the corners of my lips curling up, and went over to him.
"Hey," I greeted. "What're you doing here?"
Newt mocked a frown. "You want me to leave?"
"No, of course I don't! It's just... Chuck's probably gonna arrive anytime now, and..."
Newt grabbed my waist and pulled me closer, a small smirk on his face.
"And?" He said in a soft voice, his eyes twinkling.
"Nothing," I laughed. "Forget I said anything."
And I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him, wrapping my arms around him. I let myself feel his lean frame, my fingers tracing his spine. His muscular arms felt powerful and steady as they hugged me, and I couldn't help but think of how soft and warm his lips felt against mine.
There was a knock and shuffle at the door and a voice said, "Ahem."
Newt and I whirled around and found Jeff standing by the doorway, raising his eyebrows at us.
"It's a little too early to be making out, don't ya think?" He said.
"Shut up, Jeff," I retaliated back, my face red.
He gave me an amused smirk and gestured to a small, squat figure behind him - it was Chuck.
"He's all yours," Jeff said, and left.
Newt smiled at me, looking slightly embarrassed. "I'm gonna go now. See ya."
He patted Chuck's shoulder as he walked out the room, and then he was gone. Chuck stared at me.
"You two were making out?" He said, his eyes wide.
"No!" I said quickly. "No - I mean... let's just not talk about that, alright?"
Chuck had the nerve to grin. "So you two are a couple, huh? No wonder you two keep hangin' around each other. Strange, I would've thought the other boys in the Glade would want to be with you. Did Newt have to fight the others to get with you? Did all the boys begged you to be with them?"
I glared at Chuck.
"You sure do talk a lot," was all I said before turning around and gathering the medical supplies.
"Why are you the only girl in the Glade anyway? How are you so calm with living in a maze full of freaking boys? Have you slept with any of them before? Apart from Newt, I mean?"
"Bloody hell, Chuck!" I exclaimed, my face now as red as a tomato. "That is such a personal question!"
"So you have slept with the others!" Chuck said, grinning mischievously.
"No, I haven't! I've only ever slept with Newt - wait, shit, no, I take it back-!"
Chuck was laughing. I shot him a muderous glare, feeling like strangling him.
"Alright, enough questions," I said, gritting my teeth. "Your work experience thing is supposed to start now. Let's go."
Chuck seemed to deflate at my words. He trudged out of the room with me, the grin disappearing from his face as his posture slumped a little. I wondered what soured his mood so suddenly when I noticed the cloud of worry swirling in his eyes; he was scared that he might not be good at any of the jobs, I realized.
I led him into one of the medical rooms, where Mark was sitting on the bed. He glanced up at us as we walked in and gave us a crooked grin.
"Hey," he said, holding up his arm, which was bloody. "Cut myself again. Mind patching me up?"
