TW: Abuse.
Sean was absolutely miserable. Sarah was so on and off with him. One minute they were having a lot of fun and the next minute she was yelling at him about how he wasn't doing something right and she was going to leave.
Sean swore he loved her though, so why would he leave?
Sean was cooking for Sarah, she had a̶s̶k̶e̶d̶ told him to do so.
When Sean went to plate the food he dropped the pan and he panicked.
He picked it up as quickly as possible and dumped it out, but it was too late.
Sarah was in his face again, she was screaming.
"You're such a fuck up! Why can you do nothing right?!"
"I-I'm sorry I'll make more and I won't eat anything."
"You're damn right you won't." Then Sarah raised her hand and smacked Sean as hard as she could. Sean felt sick. He could vomit right there but he was scared that would cause him to be hit again.
"I'm sorry."
Sarah scoffs and pushes him, Sean falls backward and hits his head on the door behind him. His vision shakes and he squeezes his eyes shut. By the time he can focus again she's gone.
Sean gets up and cleans the food mess up. He wasn't hungry anyway.
He goes into the bathroom and notices she didn't just smack him, her nails dug into his face. Great.
He reaches a hand to touch the back of his head and flinches at the shock of pain it brings. He wets a rag with cold water and gently wipes the area and sighs in relief when there's no blood.
He cleans his cheek and goes to hide in his bedroom. He really hopes his mom doesn't notice.
At the end of Fall Break, Sean and Sarah were at his house again. It was a Sunday so the next day they had school so Sean was working on homework last minute while Sarah was scrolling through her phone.
"Sean, are you gay?"
"Um.." Sean pauses.
"Thought so."
She texts something else on her phone and after more awkward silence someone knocks on the door.
She smiles at Sean, but it's menacing. She opens the door to a guy he doesn't recognize.
"Here he is."
The guy looks at Sean full of anger, Sean feels himself shrinking down into his skin, but that's all he can do.
At this moment, he wishes he has someone to call. He doesn't. All his new friends are just like Sarah.
The guy steps closer to Sean and picks him up by his shirt so he's now standing.
"So you think it's okay to be gay, huh?"
Sean didn't say anything, he knew better.
The man still wasn't happy with the lack of an answer and punched Sean in his jaw. Sean fell back and the man took this as an invitation to kick him in the stomach. Sean counted 3 kicks before Sean spat up some blood.
Another punch landed on his face, then another. Then they stopped. One final hard kick landed and the two were gone. Sean was left disoriented and bleeding. He evened out his breathing as much as he could. He had to call someone, he needed to go to the hospital but he couldn't even get up. He didn't want to call an ambulance, someone else might need one much more than him.
He pushed himself to pull out his phone and looked through his contacts. He landed on Marzia, she would answer, right?
"Why are you calling me?" Marzia said calmly.
"I-" Sean went into a coughing fit noting there was still blood coming up. "Hospital, please."
Marzia hung up abruptly, Sean hoped and prayed to anyone who would listen that meant she was coming.
He was falling in and out of consciousness when his door opened and he heard a gasp. Marzia's hands were on him now and she was trying to get him, Sean used any strength he could find and he stood up. He put most of his weight on her as she guided him to her car. She sped off and they arrived shortly after.
He hoped his mom wouldn't realize he was there. He didn't have the energy to make up a story about what happened.
Marzia stayed back in the waiting area and as soon as Sean's back hit a hospital bed he was knocked out. He felt he didn't need to force himself to stay awake anymore.
The next time Sean woke up he saw Marzia sitting in the chair beside him.
He was still dazed and the room started spinning so he gripped at his head and closed his eyes tight again.
Marzia spoke quietly, "Sean?"
He opened his eyes and turned to her.
"Are you okay? Do you wanna talk about how you ended up like this?"
Sean sighs, "If I tell you please don't share with anyone else."
Marzia gives a curt nod so Sean prepares himself to re-experience.
"Well, Sarah hasn't been the best all the time. We have our great moments but she turns into this person sometimes that I don't even recognize. I dropped her dinner by accident and she smacked me and pushed me. The next day, I thought we were fine. She asked me if I'm gay and I didn't know how to answer such an obscure question. Then before I knew it she had someone coming in to beat me for being a faggot and she left with him."
Marzia lets out a shaky sigh, "You have to tell someone Sean it's only going to get worse. What if she ends up killing you or has someone else do it for her?"
Sean wanted to tell her he'd deserve it but instead, he stayed quiet."Sean, you've been doing some really messed up things but you don't deserve something as awful as this. This is abuse in so many ways. I'm sure she has verbally abused you, too?"
Sean nods sadly.
"Please, Sean. If you at least tell someone you'll be safe. I can't promise the guys will forgive you easily at all but don't keep yourself in that death trap. If you choose not to tell someone, I won't give up on keeping you safe, but this doesn't excuse your actions. I understand why you don't speak up for anyone now, though."
"Marzia, you are truly an angel. You didn't have to come to help me but you still did. You have a heart of gold and I know Felix will treat you right. I could even see you guys getting married one day." Sean smiles at the thought.
Marzia blushes, "Oh, stop it. Like I said, no matter what you've done this isn't what you deserve."
"You can leave now if you want, I'll understand. You've really saved me today."
Marzia gets up and hesitates for a moment but places a gentle kiss to Sean's forehead, "Work on getting your life together, okay? I know it's rough right now but if you truly want it fixed it will be, even if it takes time." With that, she was gone. Sean was truly grateful for her. He knew he didn't deserve any of the respect he had just received but she was always that kind. She took care of all of her boys no matter what.
Sean heard the door opened and looked up to see his mom.
"Oh God baby, what happened to you?"
Sean thought for a moment enjoying the embrace of his mother. It felt safe.
"I got in a fight and lost terribly. I started it."
"Thank fuck you're okay. Please don't do this to me, again."
His mother begins checking on his health and for any internal bleeding, "You'll have to be in here another night, they managed to injure one of your ribs and your one wrong tap away from bleeding internally. Get some sleep, Sean, for me."
He nods and watches as she leaves. He just keeps digging himself into deeper holes, doesn't he?
Mark was feeling fine. He was home alone and thoroughly enjoyed the trip with his best friends.
He fell asleep before he could have any bad thoughts of any sort and dreamt of what would've happened if Sarah never came into the picture.
