I let the car door slam behind me as I turned up the collar of my jacket to protect my face from the bitter chill. The wind whipped around me without a trace of pity, it's arms slipping under the lining of fur tucked under the denim of my coat.
I shivered against the cold as I trudged towards the small building in the distance. The only thing I could make out of it was the neon letters spelling out "Creative Flow", though some of the letters had already died out so all it said was "Eat Flo". I bet Sia approved.
I pulled out the cold metal harmonica from my jacket pocket and blew on it with my breath to warm my fingers and the frozen exterior. I placed my fingers in the position to play the first notes of one of my favorite songs: Au Clair de la Lune on the instrument. I was jamming out to it when I look up from the open door and see.
Her.
I literally had no words, and apparently no breath either because the moment I caught sight of her eyes, my harmonica sputtered to a stop and I fumbled to keep it in my clumsy hands. I tried to seem entirely cool and collected as I leaned back on the door behind me. I feel through immediately and landed on my tush. Hard.
I rubbed my bum and winced at the pain. No doubt I was going to get a nasty bruise after this...
"What the hell are you doing here, Asheton." she asked, her nostrils flaring. I never thought I'd call somebody's nostrils cute, but hers were doing the most adorable thing nostrils could ever do.
I looked past her and saw Sam dancing to some music in the other room. Sounded like Mask Off, but the dance was Orange Justice so I was vaguely confused. I brushed the hair off my forehead and replied. "I'm Sam's older brother, is that a problem?"
I brushed off my jeans and looked up at her. She reminded me of what the embodiment of Satan would be if she lived in Sia's skeleton. I guess I noticed the resemblance most when she flared those nostrils and furrowed those brows.
"How dumb do you think I am to not know the difference between Blue and Parish? I'm going to have to ask you to kindly leave my studio now."
^replica of Asheton's face lol
She stared me down until, Sam skid past her from the next room over and ran into my arms. He gave me a fierce hug and held my hand to lead me out of the studio. I almost went ahead and followed him, until I saw the look of hurt flash through her eyes. It was so brief that I almost didn't see her look of yearning when she saw me and my step-brother together. I stared into her eyes, until she looked down at the main desk, not knowing where else to stare. Sam looked back and forth in between us. As the dots started connecting in his brain, a devious grin crept onto his face. He yanked my shoulder down so he could whisper in my ear.
"Don't stare at her like that," he giggled, " she might realize that you're in love with her."
My cheeks flared up the moment I hear the l-word fly out of his mouth.
Love? There was no way I was actually in love with her, was there?
I dragged Sam out the door after that and stomped my way back to the car.
"What was that for, Sam?" I asked, sliding into the driver's seat. "After that, she definitely knows how I feel about her..."
I moaned into the steering wheel. It felt like my perfectly balanced world was leaning towards utter disaster. Sam shrugged. "I mean is it really all that bad if she knew anyway?" he asked, genuinely curious. "Wouldn't most girls actually like it if you were honest with them?"
I turned around in my seat to see Sam galloping through the fields of Hyrule in his new Zelda game. He'd been glued to it for almost a month now, and he's been swearing up and down that he's almost through with the entire game.
I yanked the toy out of his hands.
"Hey what'd you do that for?!" He yelled, grabbing at thin air trying to get the console back."First you tell me this," I cleared my throat, trying to channel my big brother voice, "How do you know so much about girls?"
He rolled his eyes and snatched the game back. "It's just common sense dude, treat others the way you want to be treated. Don't be a wuss. Get the point already you know...?" He trailed off, encaptivated by the game.
I bit my lip contemplating. I guess he's right though. But sometimes I like it when the girl's a little jealous, wasn't that sort of cute? Or would things get out of hand?
