After that Hunter visited Alex almost everyday. Hunter always went to the bakery as
soon as it opened and stayed there until it closed. Alex dreaded the time when Hunter had to
leave and Hunter anticipated the next time they would talk. Hunter was happy, he finally made a
friend. The last time he had a friend was in the 1860's and that ended horribly after he invited his
friend, Abe, to the theater. Hunter was nervous, but he decided that he wanted to spend more
time with Alex.
"Today I shall ask him out." He reminded himself before stepping into the familiar crowd
of the bakery. He walked up to the counter and smiled when Alex's eyes met his.
"Good morning, Sir." Alex said while placing a freshly baked batch of bread on the
counter.
"Good morning." Hunter responded.
"What'd you want for breakfast?" Alex gestured to the counter that separated him from
Hunter. "We have a large variety."
"I would like some of that." Hunter pointed to a banana muffin.
"Ah, that's a good choice."
Alex grabbed the muffin out of the display case, placed it on a plate, and smiled. Then he
pretended to ring it up and blushed as their hands touched when he gave it to Hunter. Alex never
made Hunter pay for his pastries, which was good since Hunter had no money.Hunter sat down at his usual spot at by the window and waited for Alex to come and talk
to him like he always did.
"Ugh," Hunter groaned in fake annoyance when Alex walked up to his table. " Don't you
have somewhere to be?"
Alex stopped walking. He felt like crying but he held it in. He didn't want to seem weak.
"Fine" He said. "I'll go back to work."
Hunter thought that would probably be a good idea but he wanted to talk to Alex more so
he apologised.
"I am just kidding." Hunter stood up and gave Alex a hug. "I am sorry. You want some
muffin?"
Alex nodded and sat down.
Hunter sat down and stared at him. He expected Alex to grab a piece of the muffin
himself, but when he didn't, Hunter broke off a piece, and told Alex to say "Ahh.".
Alex's pale cheeks turned red as he accepted the food.
"You like bananas right?" Hunter asked as Alex was chewing.
Alex nodded.
"Did you hear about the guy who got hit in the head with a can of soda." Alex said after swallowing.
"No?"
"He was lucky it was a soft drink."Alex laughed at his own joke. Hunter was confused, but the sound of Alex's laugh made him
laugh.
"ALEX!" A girl's voice yelled. "WE NEED YOU TO MAKE MORE COOKIES!"
"ALRIGHT!" Alex yelled back.
Hunter jumped at the sound of Alex yelling. He was surprised that such a small body could make
such a loud noise.
"Who was that?" Hunter asked.
Alex started to stand up. "My sister." He looked at Hunter sternly. "She's only 16, don't get any
ideas."
"I wasn't." Hunter put up his hands defensively.
"I'm serious." Alex warned. "I take boxing."
Hunter laughed. "Okay, I get it."
Alex stared at him seriously, then finally walked away. Hunter left the bakery after eating
his muffin.
"Dang it." He thought once he got home. "I forgot to ask him out."
