Once Alex was out of sight, Hunter went home and cried. His mother cradled him in her
arms and told him how he shouldd told him how he should stop messing with humans. Hunter yelled at her and called her
a hypocrite and then ran upstairs to his room to cry some more. He played all of the latest sad
love songs on the loudest volume he speaker could go. He wallowed in his self pity for three
whole days until his mother complained about the stench. Despair smells sour.
Finally after a good shower, He decided to man up and beg Alex to forgive him. Though
he wasn't too sure what he needed to be forgiven for. He decided he would try again at baking
and this time he would do it right!
1 cup unsalted butter , melted and cooled at least 10 minutes (226g)
1 ¼ cup brown sugar tightly packed (250g) 1/2 cup sugar (100g)
1 large egg + 1 yolks (room temperature preferred)*
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (350g)
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips (plus additional for tops, optional) (300g +
additional)
According to www.spendwithpennies.com this was the recipe that would make me the
perfect chocolate cookies, aka, the "I'm sorry, Alex" cookies.
He spent all his time and effort into those cookies. He studied the recipe until he made,
what he believed to be the best cookie he was able to make. Unfortunately, he took 4 days to
make it, which meant he had not seen Alex in a full week. He was started to feel the withdrawal
symptoms.
He grabbed a picnic basket and put his batch of cookies inside. He threw on a red hoodie
after his shower and skipped out of the house.
Hunter arrived at Sinclair's and expected to hear Alex's happy, "Good morning, Sir."
But instead he saw, what seemed to be the taller, female version of Alex, He guessed it
was his sister. "What can I get you?" She asked with the typical teenage boredom. "Is Hunt-I mean is Alex here." He stuttered nervously. He looked past Alex's sister andtried to see if he was in the back room baking.
"No." She giggled. "He's on a date."
The color drained from his face. "Uh, is Joy here?"
"Nope. She's with Alex. Why?"
Hunter felt a sharp pain in his chest. "Could you give this to him. Tell him Hunter said
sorry."
She nodded and took the basket.
He walked as fast as he could out the door and as the cold air smacked his face he started
to sprint home. The only thing on his mind was Alex. And if he could got back in time he
wouldn't save Abe he would stop himself from walking into Sinclair's and meeting Alex. One
heartbreak he could take but two? That was just too much for a single soul. It was too much.
The next day he went to Sinclair's again.. Maybe he was trying to convince himself
everything went back to the way it was before. Who knows? But Hunter walked into the bakery
and went to the counter happy to finally see his smiling face.
Alex's face turned cold when he say Hunter, he didn't greet him like usual.
"I'll take a banana muffin, please." Hunter said smiling.
Alex grabbed a plate and the muffin and and slid the plate over the counter.
"That will be $2.50. Cash or Card?" Alex said in an almost robotic voice.
Hunter stared blankly.
"You know what it's fine."Alex started to walk away.
"Alex!" Hunter called he watched as Alex turned reluctantly. "You like this type of
muffin right? If you want you could share it?"
Alex exhaled. A strand of hair that was in the front of his face flew up. He turned around
and walked into the back room. Leaving Hunter to eat in the bakery by himself. He took out his
sketch book and started drawing Alex. Because, honestly he was the only thing he thought about
these days.
He walked home and like always his mother was on the couch. "How it go?" She asked.
"It was okay."
"Aww, Sweetie." She opened her arms wide and Hunter accepted the hug.
"Mom, This has been tiring." He looked her in the eyes, they were dark brown, like
Alex's
"I know, I know, You should just take a nap. Get rejuvenated." She said, repeating a
slogan she read on a magazine.
"Okay." He decided. "Wake me up in a decade."
Bianca gasped. "Sweetie, a lot happens for a mortal in a decade. They might not even
remember you after that time."
"I know, It is a good amount a time for him to stop being mad."
"Okay if your so set on it. Go up stairs and get dressed for bed, I'll tuck you in."
Bianca pulled the covers up to Hunter's chin. And kissed his forehead. The last thing he
saw was his blue painted ceiling. It calmed him.
